My grandfather (Class of '48) has been going through

Nov 4, 2015, 8:59 AM

a lot of old photos lately and has dug up some of note I thought the historians on TigerNet may find interesting.

There are two from Big Thursday, he thinks, from 1952.

I previously posted 3 others from that same set:

http://www.tigernet.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=17631965#17631965

The other is the "main building" of Clemson College (later to be named Tillman Hall). He thinks this was sometime in the 60s but I would guess late 40s or early 50s based on the cars out front and the fact that it was renamed Tillman Hall in that decade.

I'll post some more in a reply.

These are all supposedly from 1968 (but I'm thinking it's closer to the early 50s based on the cars and when Johnstone and Olin were built):

Bowman Field looking towards the "new" Clemson House.

Construction of what looks like Johnstone.

And the "new" Olin Hall.

Anyway, thought some people might enjoy these.

GO TIGERS!!

Johnstone was built in 1954.

Had to look it up. I knew it was more than 4 yrs old when I moved in for the first time in 1972. Spent the 4 best years of my life there.

Yeah I think he has his dates mixed up--looks like it was probably around '53 when those pics were taken

to a time rapidly disappearing from folk's memories....when the arrival of 3,000 students in August would double our little town's population.....and it really doesn't seem like it was that long ago.

again, gracias!

When I was at Clemson we only had two - Carolyn Creel was one. The Senior Platoon wore white unis and the Pershing Rifles had gray tunics as I recall. These photos look very much like 1950s. Thanks again.
