Mickey had an interesting caller today who

Jun 2, 2014, 6:13 PM

Played ball with and against some of the current and recent players for the Tigers and coots. He said Michael Roth wanted to go to Clemson but he liked Ray Tanner better than Jack during the recruiting process

guess it doesnt matter that roth was not recruited hard by anyone and only got in the game in omaha because the coots had run out of arms. tanner hoped to get 3 innings out of roth. he had only pitched a very few innings all year in mop up role. to his credit he pitched great and had a great career after that. but hey dont let facts get in yhe way of a good story.

determinantion, hard work and talent can do. I agree, he went on to have a pretty good career. I wish him luck.

Scott Wingo was another player who

had a Clemson pedigree but wound up in Cola with a great run which was a statement about his work ethic.

We had a better SS than wingo,...

So he would have rode the bench at Clemson.

wingo played 2nd base and we had a better one of them also. a guy that could actually hit. amazing how our so called fans remember the guys that dont play at clemson but dont remember the guys that actually contribute and play well for us.

Wingo. As for Roth, he turned into a heck of a pitcher but the guy could hit too.

The reason we remember those guys is because they are hometown boys that could play. Some of us saw them from little league on up. Many played with or against. People from all over the state tune in to see USuC play because somewhere someone knows who is playing or some of their family because they are from South Carolina. We have talent in this state that is good enough to play at Clemson, shows every time USuC kicks our tail and as shown for over a decade now. Leggett started seeing the light a few years ago about in state recruiting, but has had a hard time getting the best because people in SC see him as a Yankee first and a good coach 2nd.

It is true that Roth was not highly recruited, but in 2010, he had 37 appearances, which was the most on the team.
