Miami says Pope top WR in 2018 class

Miami football staffer: Mark Pope is best WR in class of 2018

Incoming Miami freshman Mark Pope is the No. 11 receiver and No. 67 overall player in the class of 2018, according to 247Sports. But Hurricanes director of player personnel Matt Doherty thinks Pope has a much higher ceiling than the rankings indicate.

“I think Mark Pope is the best wide receiver in the country,” Doherty said on Miami’s official National Signing Day show. “I’ve said that time and again. I don’t care what anyone else thinks. He went out to San Antonio for the Army game and he made all the other receivers there look second rate.”

Pope didn’t post huge numbers (11 catches for 247 yards) during his senior season at Miami Southridge, but that’s largely because of the offense he played in.

We’ll see if he can live up to those lofty expectations. The Hurricanes could use a game-changer on the outside.

Ross may not be as good. We don't know....

but we do know that the guy who throws our WR's the ball will be way better than anything they will have, so is the rest of our team as a whole. How may national titles did Calvin Johnson, Dez Bryant, and Larry Fitzgerald win combined?

And we'll make him look average.***

Who knows?

Pope might well end up as the top guy. I remember a couple years back all the 5-stars fizzled and the top two WR's off the board were our own Mike Williams - a former low-end 4-star from right here in South Carolina nobody else really recruited that hard - and Corey Davis was a low-end 2-star that Western Michigan scooped up without competition from anybody.

So it goes sometimes, in recruiting. The recruitniks have their say...and then the rubber meets the road and we really find out who actually has game.

Remember, they were going to destroy us last year, how did that turn out?

That is right . They've got to go get it done .
Opinionated sportswriters can't play football for them .

Hope he enjoys playing in front of a half empty stadium.
