Jun 21, 2019, 2:36 PM

with state police to prevent the governor from compelling Republican members to return to the statehouse for a vote on a climate change bill.

People shoot people over the dumbest things. It's not like the politicians are actually going to do anything...

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Without a court ordering those guys to show up...

Jun 22, 2019, 11:35 AM

I doubt any police force will be apt to physically move those men to the state house. There's also a jurisdiction issue. Imo, both sides are acting like children.

I believe the reps had a right to boycott their responsibilities. They will answer to the voters. The threat to resist the police with force was crossing the line and as often as we see it in here 'who started it,' is a argument only a child believes is valid.

I dont want a stop to it. It would be funny if the militia was taken out.

You hate war. You hate the military. Get some nutsabout yourself and do it. They need your help. Go be legendary. #makefunnyhappen.

It's just entertainment to me.

Eventually the liberals will be left to bankrupt states which overtax and overspend due to being run by socialist. Uhaul is public and therefor anyone can fact check the following article with ease.

"Using the moving company’s online estimate tool, KXAN compared the cost of renting a truck from San Francisco to Austin, given the strong tech sectors in both cities. The cost to get a 26-foot truck (enough to move a house full of stuff) to San Francisco from here is $1,150; the reverse trip costs close to four times as much, at $4,380. The cost from Los Angeles to Austin is almost five times as much..."

Other rental truck companies quote similar rates.

Maybe it's just a process and all of these non crowded areas end up becoming more liberal and waste cash etc etc as their populations grow. California hit a tipping point years ago. I bet it was much different in 1950 though. I dont think there are many densely populated areas that arent liberal in this country.

They are leaving because people with more money are moving in and driving up the costs. Higher real estate costs and the property taxes they generate help incentivize the riff raff to leave.

Nobody will ever know.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This kind of thing already happened.

So the people who know about those things... do know. Granted those are apparently few.

Re: This kind of thing already happened.

Different times and different situations. Nobody knows, but people like to pretend they do.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sorry. You are just wrong. Learn why here...

Jun 22, 2019, 10:58 AM

Even this evil is productive of good. It prevents the degeneracy of government, and nourishes a general attention to the public affairs. I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical.1 Unsuccesful rebellions indeed generally establish the incroachments on the rights of the people which have produced them. An observation of this truth should render honest republican governors so mild in their punishment of rebellions, as not to discourage them too much. It is a medecine necessary for the sound health of government." - Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, Paris, January 30, 1787

https://www.monticello.org/site/research-and-collections/little-rebellionquotation

Jefferson argues that virtually any little rebellion, (which covers this scenario) even if its wrongheaded, is probably good, as it keeps a government in check. You can disagree with his opinion, but you can't just claim that it didn't happen.

Jun 22, 2019, 11:01 AM

Yep he is talking about then in a different time. We have no idea what he would think in today's society.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Time doesn't change it at all. Read it.

Jun 22, 2019, 11:05 AM

Time literally has zero to do with this argument. That is obvious if you are reading it with an open mind. He is talking about resistance to government being good. That particular point is 100% applicable to any time before or since.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Time doesn't change it at all. Read it.

Jun 22, 2019, 11:09 AM

I am as open minded as it gets. I say we have no idea. Thats being open minded. Youre the one who thinks you know what Jefferson would think in 2019. It doesnt get more closed minded than that. He wanted slaves and to sleep with his slave back then too. Would he still support that in 2019? We will never know.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You just arbitrarily invalidated everything ever written

Jun 22, 2019, 11:12 AM

by anyone who is no longer alive. That is not rational. If a dude says rebellion is a good thing regardless of the reason.... then that doesn't go away with time. Your line of thinking is the most radical form of parochialism and presentism I have ever encountered.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: You just invalidated everything ever written

Jun 22, 2019, 11:19 AM [ in reply to You just arbitrarily invalidated everything ever written ]

Not everything, but I do know human nature and I know we adapt to the times sometimes. There are plenty of people who have written or said things in their youth, but have adapted to the times later in life even. There is no telling how Jefferson's views on things would have changed from the last 1700's to 2019. Jefferson may have seen nuances in todays world that he didnt see in the late 1700's. We will never know how is opinions, positions, and morals would have changed almost 250 years later. It would be interesting to know if it were possible.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Now you are being inconsistent for convenience.

He was a mature man when he said this. Your logic forces you to throw out everything ever written. It makes history meaningless to you. I urge you to reconsider.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Now you are being inconsistent for convenience.

Jun 22, 2019, 11:28 AM

It may or may not go away with time. Mature men change their attitudes and opinions all of the time. He may be anti slavery today. He was mature for that as well. We will never know. You just want to believe so bad, because it fits what you might want to believe possibly. We have no idea if everyone from the late 1700's would think the same way today. It's safe to say that may opinions and views would change. Who knows which views though? We will never know. They were just men.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's true.

Jun 22, 2019, 11:56 AM

Obama deported 2.5 mil illegals during his term and dems said nothing. However, I doubt those who remained silent supported deportation of illegals but have changed their minds because they matured.

Re: That's true.

Jun 22, 2019, 12:03 PM

That's kind of from left field, but I can say I have changed my mind. When Obama was POTUS I didn't mind the illegals. Now that Trump is a POTUS, I see a bigger problem and I want them deported. I am a liberal, but I want them deported generally.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I didn't think it was left field since your supposition...

Jun 22, 2019, 1:45 PM

was people changing their minds. I wasn't attacking I only pointed out an example of radical change which is more politics than not. I think much if not most of the change is about political power which brings wealth indicating that greed the original motivation.

That plays right back to the situation on Oregon. Cap and trade gives those in political power another tool to exercise more control over business. If your business doesn't require a lot of energy then it won't bother you. If it does then your business is going to radically change.

I have noticed that you do not complain about deporting illegals. In fact, most of us are at a place where enough is enough and want the illegal flow restricted to a trickle.

Woah there.

Jun 22, 2019, 6:30 PM

I never said anything like that. I'm not against immigration at all. I'm against illegal immigration because the illegals are unskilled which puts them on the welfare teat and in competition for work and gov services with the poorest Americans.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jun 23, 2019, 10:17 AM [ in reply to Re: That's true. ]

That’s how many of them get here via coyotes and those who are for continued immigration leniency are just supporting the practice ultimately so that Consuela will still be able to clean their house for $10/hour under the table
