He just went after Klobuchar for saying that English should be our national language. I liked Pete before that. English is our national language.

There is no statute passed by the Congress requiring that English as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary be the only language used in this country.
But the reality is, of course, that English, in various forms, is the language used by a super majority of this country and the language in which all statutes in all states is written.

English is the most powerful language in the world, and not just because of America (but America has had a hand in that). That being said, we still don't have an official language and a lot of people have got to get over that.
It's a non-issue, anyway.

As Ineligible said, it's not defined as such in our Constitution nor is there a federal law making it the national language.
It's part of that whole freedom thing.

It just is. Its the way it is. English is the official language of America imo and there is nothing wrong with saying that. That used to be common sense back in the day for Japanese Americand, Italian Americans, Latinos, Russian immigrants, etc etc etc. You adapted to making english your main language. You adapted. English is the language of United States. Sure its great to speak multiple languages, but that is not the point. Either way, it was idiotic of Pete to say that. Comments like that are why Trump wins.

It's not the official language until the federal government makes it the official language. That has to be done with legislation, not because Carlsbad says so.

It means we are unified. Is Japanese Japan's national language? Kind of unifying if everyone in Japan can speak Japanese. Everyone in the United States should strive to learn english. Its our national language. It always has been.
