MLB has a Major PR problem

Feb 11, 2020, 12:01 AM

The 2017 WS is so tainted.

MLB Network just showed the NYY pitching stats home vs away vs HOU.

Extremely glaring that something was amiss in hindsight.

Disclosure: Not in NYY or HOU fan base.

but said nothing and were not punished in any way, shape or form by Major League Baseball.

On that basis, how can the league justify the hypocrisy and the double standard of the lifetime ban imposed on Shoeless Joe Jackson and Buck Weaver and further, keeping them out of the Hall of Fame.

The Houston cheating issue is more akin to steroid users than the White Sox players gambling on throwing the World Series.

The punishment for gambling is not even close to being in the same discussion.

What the Astros did was cheating to find a competitive advantage. Same as steroid users.

Should they be punished? Yes.

Should it be an extreme punishment similar to those who have been caught gambling? No way.

The people who should receive the largest punishments are the coaching and team staff members who knew or helped set up the cheating.

Players are always trying to find ways to get the upper hand. The players should have known it was wrong, but it is sometimes up to the people in charge to police their players and keep them from crossing the line.

The Black Sox players didn't gamble...

Feb 11, 2020, 10:08 AM

They conspired with gamblers to rig the outcome of the 1919 World Series.

They were set to make money off of the results of the World Series.

Whether they put money down or not, that's gambling.

I also know that most players said they changed their mind and played to win anyway, but MLB did not care.

They were charged with...

conspiracy to defraud the public and conspiracy to commit a confidence game which means attempting to defraud a person or group after first gaining their trust.

A clear argument can be made that using cameras and other electronic means to steal signs and then communicate that information to hitters falls into that category.

This isn't a PR problem for MLB.

If MLB Network is continuing to talk about the issue, that means MLB is allowing it to happen.

MLB wants to be talked about during the offseason whether it is good or bad press.

The league needs more viewers and they seem to have determined that drawing people in with this negative story will bring them attention from prospective viewers.

I haven't heard anybody say they are done watching baseball because of this happening.

Billionaires squabbling with millionaires AND NOW they are cheaters, too - again. (drugs)

Time is WAY too valuable to be wasted on this nonsense.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.
