That should be a message to Kornbutt but he is too arrogant, biased, and delusional to read between the lines.

let's remember that this is families lively-hoods we're talking about. Hate to hear when anyone is out of work.

Network includes a whole news reporting arm etc that is bigger than the sports piece I believe

Phil will have his show back on somewhere quickly I imagine. Probably a bigger issue for others

My guess is the whole 'radio' thing. There are now so many information sources that its price has dropped significantly, and costs are no longer commensurate.

However, reliable information is extremely valuable.

I have a friend who runs a small town radio station. He says the radio conglomerates have pulled out of small towns and cities. He (and others) have to hustle a lot to make a profit, but they end up rebuilding a sense of community amongst their listeners/advertisers/contributors.

I hope they don't all end up going down the tubes. Local Radio is awesome. Especially with no kids in the car.

Uhhhh NOT! Won’t shed a tear for that coot. He has caused too many issues. Should have long ago had his Clemson credentials pulled.

Did a Clemson grad buy the company?

Ouch.

I hate to see that.

I know i was one of that program's only vocal supporters on Tnet (not financial), but there's no point in arguing about it anymore.

Instead, let me ask--seriously--for those of you who care about high school sports in SC; or the developing football programs at Coastal, El Cid, Wofford, Furman, etc; or about the less publicized athletic programs at Clemson; where will you go to get your news now?

Living out of state, i don't have access to the State, P&C or News like i did SportsTalk, and I'm sure not subscribing to them. ESPN coverage is terrible (they've turned into SportsWalmart--totally market-driven. UFC is now more important than any college sport besides football). Tapping into college-affiliated local coverage is extremely time-consuming and reporting is incredibly biased, sometimes in unpredictable directions (like when a virtually anonymous contributor is trying to get a coach fired.)

I'm hoping that Learfield thinks that other media sources are doing SportsTalk's job better and cheaper. If so, I'd love to know who they are. I feel like there is now a void in the (free--as in 'not paid for') market now.

Suggestions?

Check out Palmetto Blitz . They started a podcast August 2018 promoting SC High School Football. Palmettoblitz.com and @palmettoblitz on twitter and facebook

That's a good head start. Thanks.

Agree with you I hate to see them leave the air. Been listening on my nightly drive home since the night Coach Ford snagged John Johnson from UGA on signing day in 1988. Things have evolved and I don't depend on Phil for recruiting anymore, but still enjoy his show.

And I know a lot of folks did not care for him.

But I hate for folks to lose their jobs. Good luck to all in finding another.

When Mick Mixon and Don Williams did the show it had a certain degree of professionalism and that was about 30 years ago. When korn hole took the mike, Sports Talk has been in a slow death spiral. Learfield finally put him out of his misery. Maybe he can land a new home on WUSC where he really belonged anyway.

A myna bird could've done a better job.

But a Myna bird wasn't on a first name basis with hundreds--HUNDREDS--of leading citizens in your state (assuming you're from SC).

And that Myna bird couldn't do interviews as well as Kornblut.

Sure, some of his contributors were a net negative. But that's the cost of cheap entertainment.
