First off we know which drug it is, marijuana. Secondly it's a drug that will eventually be legal all across the US. More and more states are on the path to legalizing it. Thirdly, he shouldn't being doing it even though it's beyond absurd it's still illegal.

Even though it should be legal and doesn't have the negative side effects of alcohol, he should still not do it. Was that more understandable?

I agree with your fourth breath. But, I think when you break team rules, the law, and common sense, I am entitled to be judgmental toward you. Especially when you're in the public eye.

So, are you saying Marijuana don't have negative side effects? You sound like an enabler. Bryant isn't some poor victim that was roped into this stupidity. NFL teams invest lots of cash in educating their players and providing help. Less than 1 year ago he was suspended for substance abuse. He didn't just make a bad mistake, he intentially blew through every road block in his path to get his "buzz on".

Why should that be more important than the NFL and the government for that matter using basic common sense? Marijuana only hurts his family because it's illegal, the actual act of using it does not. Martavis might eat up all the Doritos before anybody else in the house gets some but that's about it....

Alcohol kills more Americans every year than the entire Vietnam War did yet it's perfectly legal....

I don't drink or smoke weed but if the alcohol is legal there is absolutely no reason for marijuana not to be.

He is in is early 20's with three kids. He gave up his youth/childhood and room for stupidity when he was at Clemson. He had a kid while at Clemson and was suspended at the end of his sophomore year. He had 3 kids when he was suspended last year for 4 games. I feel sorry for his kids, because he is failing them as a father and I feel bad for his team because he isn't much of a team mate.

state our opinion about someone who uses an illegal drug and puts his career and family in jeopardy. I could care less if you smoke all the pot you want to, but as soon as it puts your career or family in jeopardy, then you too become an irresponsible person. By the way, what does being in your 20's have to do with it. I was fighting in the jungles of Viet Nam in my early 20's.

Re: And a lot of soldiers smoked pot in the jungles of Vietnam..

You're right. Young people do make mistakes - I did that's for sure. BUT I learned from it.

The fact is, he's tested positive MULTIPLE times knowing that he has a wife and children to provide for. Regardless of if you think it's morally right or wrong (I think it's OK btw, as long as you're not endangering others) - it's AGAINST league policy. In other words, his family's livelihood depends on him NOT smoking, yet he continues to do it.

Don't blame it on him being young. It's him being a dumba$$... Dumba$$.

His NFL career is probably over if the decision is upheld. Hope he has legal work to fall back on and is open to help in breaking a pattern of behavior that has been evident for quite some time.

Mar 12, 2016, 4:36 PM [ in reply to tk79, tell me, do you really believe the stuff you say or do ]

Where are you getting this tolerant of anything a person does mumble jumble? Most people in this country are doing some kind of drug. More drugs are coming into this country than at any point in history. And we already have long legalized drug in alcohol. So a majority of Americans already condone drug use. They may not say it out loud, but in their brains they have no problem with it because they are likely to be doing some kind of drug.

Is there something wrong with having a differing opinion? By the way I'm not tolerant of anything. So fail at misrepresenting my opinions. Of course my opinions will stick out. We are located in the South, so any person with a nuanced or open minded view is going to stick out. I didn't instigate anything. I stated my opinion about something I view as hypocritical. Other posters responded and their was a discussion about the issue. And if you read my first post in this thread I stated Bryant shouldn't have done it. So I wasn't condoning what he did, I was talking about the overall issue with marijuana. That's called nuance.

Early 20's or not, he is a grown man. He is aware of the consequences, and just because something is made legal it does not mean that it will be allowed in certain organizations. At the age of 20 I was leading other grown men into combat while making decisions that meant life or death, and I certainly wasn't making millions of dollars to do it. He has no excuse, and this is his second offense. I say throw the book at him. I can understand a 2nd chance, but nobody deserves a 3rd or 4th chance. I wear body armor because I want a second chance. After that my body armor may not work and I die. I don't believe in coddling people that are adults.

This is possibly his 5th, YES 5TH, failed test for marijuana since being in the NFL. He was said to have failed 4 before his 4 game suspension just last year. He is not due for a decent contract for another 2-3 years. Making chump change for what he would likely be making then if he could just not get high. It's getting to the point where he might be done in the league. IDC if it should be legal or soon will be. It's not yet. What a #######!

Why is the human race so concerned with judging each other and telling each other how to live? Why does the nfl have a test to see if you like a plant? why does anyone get into each others business? When you go to work you should be measured by how well you do your job, thats about it. Your personal time is your time. We have one life to live and you shouldnt spend yours concerned with anyone elses. if someone wants to use a drug or a plant 247 for their whole life than tell them to have fun. Republicans wanna cut your taxes and less government but they want to tell you whats right and wrong and make decisions for your life. Democrats want to take your money and tell you where to spend it. Every man leave each other the heck alone. SWINNEY4PREZ2016

You're totally missing the point man. It's the fact that he KNOWS he isn't allowed to do this, but continues to do it.

I think all reasonable people agree the NFL marijuana policy is patently absurd. There should be zero testing for it, and no ban in the league. I think after his insanely horrible handling of "Deflategate", the marijuana policy is Goodell & the league's biggest failing in recent memory. Heck, I think it should be legal nationally. I live in Denver and have been greatly enjoying & taking advantage of legal marijuana. I literally just took a hit of some a minute ago...

...but, again, he knows he's not supposed to do it, and continues to. He knows he's risking millions by doing this. He knows he's under the spotlight since he's already failed other drug tests. He left Clemson because he already had several children and needed to take care of them, yet is totally irresponsible. It's not about the legality of the substance he's using, it's about the knowledge he's not supposed to do it and still doing it.

Na man, I'm not changing the subject. I'm simply commenting on the fact that you're all over the place. You're talking about Bryant, the league, youthful errors, the issue at large, drug policy...now the past two posts you've talked about my "usual tactics", which are totally untrue. I don't put words in other peoples' mouths and I don't try to change the subject. I think you and I may have interacted two or three times on this site, yet you're commenting on my "usual tactics". You're just making stuff up at this point--probably because you've got 20 different arguments on this thread alone.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've seen how you interact with other posters...

Mar 12, 2016, 5:57 PM

and that's the manner you behave. Only two issues I have addressed in this thread: Bryant's suspension and the overall issue of marijuana legalization. That's two things, that ain't all over the place. How do you get 20 out of 2? Would be nice to have civil discussion with you on this, but I guess it ain't happening. I've stated what I had to state very clearly on the two issues. You don't have to agree, you don't have to like it. But don't project things on to me that I haven't stated and then carry on with it, when I have proven to you I didn't state those things or believe those things. I have no more to say on the subject, so have a nice day. And maybe hopefully you will learn when someone is expressing a nuanced position. And heck, my position didn't include that much nuance.

Mar 13, 2016, 12:07 AM [ in reply to Re: another usual tactic of yours, changing the subject... ]

I've seen how you interact with other posters... and that's the manner you behave.

Fair enough. I've seen your interactions with other posters and have come to the conclusion that you like to argue about anything, so you make things up to manufacture a problem. Oftentimes you intentionally take the contrarian side in some act of defiance, and you seem to do it because you think you're much smarter than everyone else. You rarely ever win an argument, but in your mind everyone else is stupid and you're smart so you don't ever think twice about jumping into such foolish situations.

Only two issues I have addressed in this thread: Bryant's suspension and the overall issue of marijuana legalization.

Going over your posts, you've addressed Bryant's suspension, marijuana legalization, reading comprehension, youthful mistakes, alcohol consumption, soldier activity in Vietnam, the Democratic party, freedom of speech, NFLPA operations, my "usual tactics", oh and NUANCE.

How do you get 20 out of 2?

It's called hyperbole, ever heard of it? However, it actually may not be hyperbole. Of your 39 responses in this thread, I think I counted you responding & arguing with 20+ different people.

You don't have to agree, you don't have to like it.

Here's the thing: I totally agree with your position, and I think most do! You start arguments over everything and don't concede anything, that's why you're constantly arguing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

haha good one, you agree with me yet start an argument with me...

Mar 13, 2016, 2:39 PM

You agree with me yet say negative things about the thing you agree with. Tell me how that makes sense. "Winning arguments", like I really care. And yes I brought up two issues, I just included nuance with those two issues. And where did I claim to be smarter than other posters. Once again projecting things on to me I never have stated. Sorry if my opinions aren't tailored to a ss kiss the rest of the posters on board. Sorry if I don't morally pontificate about other people's lives.

I see what your angry about now, the conceding part. On this topic I wasn't proven wrong on anything. So why would a person concede something when there opinion hasn't been countered with facts.

The more you post, the more you show what your issue is with me. You want me to concede and say I'm wrong no matter what the topic is. And that's why you started an argument with me. You see that you're contradicting yourself by saying you agree with me, and then all of your responses to me have been about attacking what I post. Please explain why you go at a poster that you agree with? This was a civil discussion by tigernet standards. But you were the person who came after me the most. And yet you say you agree with me. Never had anything personal against you or your posts, so I'm leaving it at that. Sorry that I don't concede at the level you think is acceptable. I will try my best in the future to concede to your wishes and admit that I'm wrong all the time. Hopefully that will make you happy and not attack me when you agree with me.

PS I have admitted to making an #### out of myself on multiple occasions.

Man thought he said he learned his lesson and needed to grow up for his family. Said this would never happen again, he made a mistake. Gonna turn into Justin Blackmon. Its just sad that kids throw away these unique and one of a kind chances. I struggle to pay my bills and he has anything he needs. So sad.

I've got an idea....Let's all fail drug tests and go from making 4...7...12 million a year to play football and instead get run out the league so we can serve 12 piece buckets at POPEYES!

BRYANT....WAKE UP!

Even if a drug becomes legal (e.g., alcohol) doesn't mean it's use or overuse can't be prohibited as a term of employment. Long-haul truck drivers must take a "pee test" to retain their professional license.

Marijuana should be legal

Completely harmless and unrelated to any job activity.

an NFL HOF'er down the road with his elite ability, health, and opportunity that every athlete would die for. How can he not appreciate this fortune? If he is so fond of weed, just wait 10 years and he can smoke all he wants. Is it addictive? I was under the assumption it was not. I'm at a total loss figuring this one out

Head up Tay, you got this man. Don't worry about all of the negativity, none of those people got you to this point and none of them will be there with you when you make it out of it. Learn from this and don't let them take away the game that you love

You said "don't let THEM take it away from you"

So it's not on him, it's just someone trying to take his career away? Umm, in case you didn't know, it's HIS choice to smoke weed like a thug and #### away his career, not THEM. Nobody made him aspire to be snoop dog. My god, it's weed. How hard is it not to smoke freakin weed? That is just lack of discipline and idiocy.

Don't fail a drug test and let the league commissioner and other executives that sit back and make money off of your athletic ability and people watching you, take the game from you.

I would type a lot more but I'm not gonna waste my time

Mar 12, 2016, 11:56 PM [ in reply to Re: FB Update: Former Clemson receiver facing year-long NFL suspension ]

Why is it idiotic to smoke weed regularly? I did the pothead thing in high school, and quit a year or so into college because it was making me too paranoid. I moved to Denver a few months ago and started smoking again because I was able to get specific strains which gave me specific effects. As a result, I take a hit or two every day because it dramatically helps quell my anxiety. It's certainly nowhere near as bad as alcohol, though I do enjoy the sauce a bit too haha.

In the end, adults should be able to make adult decisions and decide what they put in their body as long as it doesn't affect the lives of others (which is why I'd be against the legalization of other drugs like heroin). Bryant is a bozo for knowingly doing this, but ultimately the NFL needs to change this rule.

Why is it idiotic to smoke weed regularly?

Umm, because it is against NFL policy. And if you break NFL policy you get suspended. If you get suspended, you don't get paid. If you don't get paid, you can't support your family of three kids. If you can't support your family because you want to smoke weed, you're a f'in idiot.

weed thing. it's just that his employer has a no smoking policy which he is tending to ignore - THAT is what the majority of these threads are about . ( please correct me if i'm mistaking )

The man has a problem. It has been stated this isn't partying with the boys or a I'll do what I want to do kind of thing. The guy has some issues and uses herb to cope with those issues and whatever those issues are seem to be strong enough that smoking wins out over the risk he knows he is taking. Get well, Tay.

Just got back from CO and really, who cares? It's weed. Granted Martavis should use better judgement giving the rules and $ he's making. That said... It's weed. Medically legal in 23 states and some to be more. Medically and recreationally. A year is rediculas. It's not performance enhancing and less harmful than the alcohol some many of us enjoy. Play by the rules, but seriously... Fix the rules. Someone please provide me with a bad story that ends as a result of marijuana. Laughable.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I love weed. I LOVE it

Mar 13, 2016, 5:02 AM

but I gave it up to secure my family's future. That's a choice I haven't looked back on. Make the smart choice, Martavis. You don't have to like it, but make the smart choice for your family. That being said, I don't even know what he tested positive for.

It's Simple

Mar 13, 2016, 10:31 AM

Mr. Bryant's employer, the NFL/Steelers, has a progressive disciplinary policy for certain drug use and a testing policy. He is a member of the players' Union which signed off on the agreement. His agent is either an attorney or had an attorney review his individual contract.

I imagine there is an appeals process.

It is not a matter of right/wrong or legal/illegal.

More than likely he'll miss his salary and bonus from the Steelers of $709,805.00 this year.

I doubt he has the potential to play and get paid in the another Football League, but who knows?

Just another employment decision.

Maybe a year at the car wash will energize his thought process, however most pro teams have limited patience with druggies.
