North Carolina. Was thinking it was some version of crab grass but it doesn't "clump" at a root like most crab grass that I've seen and it is a very bright light green - several shades lighter than my KY fescue...

I have the same grass popping up in my back yard in NC. A very bright green compared to the fescue around it.

You're correct. It's a type of crabgrass that doesn't produce seed heads.

Prevent it with preemergent in late winter/early spring.

If so, good luck. Hard to get rid of, and will choke out grass.

If it's easy to pull up, it's crab grass.

Looks like the species you do not want.....crabgrass.

Dallisgrass

Jun 27, 2017, 3:16 PM

Dallisgrass is what that appears to be. Looks like crabgrass but is more separated.
