All Depends On Officiating...Far And Away ---

Nov 4, 2018, 10:14 PM

LSU player hits Alabama player in a VERY
VERY IDENTICAL WAY AJ Terrell hit the Louisville punt returner. Both plays were reviewed for targeting after the call was made on the field for it. The LSU player's call for targeting was reversed to being a legal hit. AJ Terrell's targeting call was confirmed on him....though both hits were VERY VERY IDENTICAL.

This just sucks for AJ Terrell....though we got the huge win and LSU did not.

LSU fans would have rioted if that targeting stood

All the news about SEC officiating bias towards Bama would have been sent to overdrive.

In any other game, they might have kept that call since helmets did accidentally collide.

Agreed with Dabo. I did not think AJ's hit was targeting.

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

The NCAA has got to take a look at this rule. It really needs to have an intent clause in it. If the defender leads with the crown (NOT THE SIDE OF HIS HELMET), launches, or has harmful intent. Also take into consideration the offensive player dropping their head or body into a line of fire (so to speak). You can read a lot about the intent as soon as the defender gets up from the play. Just look at the call on A.J. Terrell vs. the kid from Loserville. Not to mention the huge difference when both players went to the sidelines after each got the targeting calls. Clemson players and coaches we not celebrating the hit or the (bogus) ejection. In typical Loserville fashion it was glorified, much like FSU use to do.

It’s pathetic the way TV pans to the crowd and shows the concerned fans faces after a targeting call, anxiously waiting to see if their player will be ejected. Because WHO KNOWS??? it’s absolutely a crap shoot and ridiculous the way it’s being implemented. Refs and guys hidden in some secret booth somewhere must be rolling chicken bones to divine how the call will go.

And it matters if you are playing Bama next week, although that’s not written in the rule explicitly.

It's a game-changing 'guess'

All too often...and the fact it can possibly affect two games' outcomes demands the rule be written such that it can be interpreted specifically to support the intent with which it's written. Currently...it doesn't. It simply doesn't. Neither of those plays rose to the level of targeting and even a blind man could see both were striving NOT to target. And yet...some doofus sipping coffee, watching numerous replays while tending to his manicure with an emery board wields the power to change a game. Sad.
