There's been quite a few articles like this in the last 10 or so years. They show a picture of the "world's oldest person" or whatever and almost invariably they're sitting there smoking a cig. The health, diet, vitamin, exercise, etc, industries make billions of dollars convincing people they can significantly alter their longevity. And about 95% of it is horseshid. Genetics, family history, and good old LUCK have more to do with it than anything.

All the old folks I've ever known ate fried foods, homemade biscuits, gravy... with a side order of grease and extra cholesterol. Never ate a salad in their life, and never set foot in a gym. And most of em smoked. And they all lived to be 75, 80, 90 years old. Back in Sept I took my 91 year old uncle to see his 92 year old brother in Florida, because he finally won't drive that far by himself. I've got a picture of the 3 of us sitting in his garage, smoking cigs and drinking beers.

Now, the one thing ALL old folks DO have in common is they're small. "Little old lady" and "little old man" are sayings because they're true. I've never seen a 280 pound 90 year old. And neither have you. Because they don't exist. I've known people that age who smoke, but none who are FAT. But for some bizarre reason, you can't say a word about obesity, because you're "fat shaming". Obesity now kills more people than smoking... and it seems like almost the whole US population is overweight. That's the first thing people who visit the US from other countries notice... "damm, everybody in America is huge."
