Swofford doesn't care

Nov 26, 2018, 5:56 PM

because his North Carolina teams play each other in the last week (rivalry week).

Mike Slive, the former SEC commissioner, got tired of SEC teams being beaten by ACC teams in rivalry week, so he set up the cross-conference rivalry teams' schedules to play cupcakes the week before.

usc played UTC
UGA played UMASS
Florida played Idho
Kentucky played Middle Tenn State

What would it take for the ACC to change its football scheduling to strategically play cupcakes?

Anything short of a new commissioner?

It's up to the individual schools when they schedule OOC games.

and could easily schedule some cupcake opponent the week before the u5c game, but we rarely do it and, frankly, I don't know why.

Next year, u5c has an open date the week before playing Clemson while Clemson will be playing a conference opponent.

The ACC Schedule isn't out yet and with two bye weeks next year it's still possible that we get one right before the SCAR game.

Since the dates for the OOC opponents is already set

Nov 26, 2018, 7:49 PM

it would have to be an open date or an conference opponent.

Since the season kickoffs the last weekend of August, we will also open with a conference opponent.

Nov 26, 2018, 6:39 PM

.......the coot game isn’t a bye????? We actually get a “W” for pounding that hot garbage?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably

Nov 26, 2018, 6:44 PM [ in reply to Perhaps those SEC teams would’ve won anyway?*** ]

this year, but it has been an SEC policy for ~10 years.

It still makes preparation for rivalry week easier than having a conference game the week before.

I understand why the SEC does it. For the most

Nov 26, 2018, 10:30 PM

part all P5 schools play a FCS school at some point.

I’m just a little surprised ESPN hasn’t stopped it. It’s an absolute drag on TV ratings for them late in the year when the season is in full swing. Until ESPN stops it, they will continue to do it.

The opponent the week before didn't matter.
