Ran 5K yesterday

May 12, 2020, 9:14 AM

I started running about 2 weeks ago. A mile or two every day or so. Initially my mile time was 8:30. Probably the first time I have run a mile continuously since college, playing intramurals or something back in ought-6.

Yesterday I did the first mile in 7:20 and then slowed down greatly and finished the 5K in 28:30.

Progress.

Feelsgoodman.

I'm comin' for ya, Greenr, Tdrake, others!

Not bad. Try for 8:30 miles. If really racing a 5K, it is

among the hardest of all races. You have to go very fast for 3 miles but not too fast or you'll shoot your wad at the beginning of the race AND it's even harder to pace because everyone around you is running so fast. And that last half mile is frikkin' torture.

One time a few years ago when I was in peak running shape I started a 5K and began the first mile at a 6:00 pace. Needless to say, I did not maintain that pace, but it was crazy to look down at my watch and see I was even running that fast. It was the situation because normally I can't run at that pace.

These days I'd be very happy to finish a 5K in under 24 minutes.

It blows me away to see folks running these crazy (to me)

times.

Maybe I'll get there one day. TBH, I'll be lucky if I'm still running a month from now and haven't moved on to another "project".

It does give a nice since of accomplishment, though.

I definitely need to learn to pace myself. Hail, if I just would have paced at 9 minutes, my time would have been better. To be fair, when I started running yesterday, I was only planning on doing a mile, but after a mile, I had a wild hair to see if I could keep going.

like you were), your times will drop quickly if you keep seeking to improve. Also, the pounds will melt off of you and you can eat anything you want!

Plus, when you run in a 5K (with other people around) - adrenaline will help you run a better time.

Back in the day, I ran a 5:10 mile once (I thought I was going to die when I finished) and I ran a 21:00 5K. These days, my knees and back are shot, so I have to stick with a recumbent bike.

cruise the streets with one of those orange flags on the back of a bike). It's great for my back and any bike is better for my knees than running. I can get a good workout on it.

But if I could, I would trade it in a second to be outdoors "pounding the pavement".

you do not sound fat with knee problems. if you are not, why in the ever living hades would you want one?

you can ride that darn thing for 3 hours and not get in an aerobic workout. just sweat a ton and build your quads
