New Story: Tigers starting to take shape for 2017

Jun 13, 2016, 8:01 AM

Tigers starting to take shape for 2017

The news filtered down late Sunday afternoon that lefty Pat Krall would forego signing with the St. Louis Cardinals and would return for his senior season at Clemson. It was the kind of news that changes the Tigers’ entire outlook for 2017. Full Story »

This team is LOADED for next year. I'm super excited to see what Monte will do with them.

Concern for third base and can Beer field First Base?***

I think Beer is much more suited for 1b than any other position. Tall and lanky- a big target to throw to. I only wish he'd be more agile so that we could utilize his arm in the outfield. TBH, I don't care where they stick him as long as he's swinging the bat every game.

You always stick your weaker defenders at 1st

Jun 13, 2016, 9:06 AM [ in reply to Concern for third base and can Beer field First Base?*** ]

Beer has a great bat, but has quite a bit of work to do in improving his defense. Despite having a good arm, him moving to first base is the right move.

disagree, disagree, disagree. How many runners/runs can a good 1B save by "picking' bad throws by IFs?
takes a diff skill set to play 1B, but don't think you "hide' a guy there.

No, no, no.. I agree with him. First base is for

You're worst fielder. .especially the slower guys.

Makes sense, that's why I played first base for sure!***

Keep Krall in the pen

Jun 13, 2016, 11:40 AM

Really don't love the idea of starting 3 LHPs on the weekend. Kralls flexibility and ability to affect multiple games provides more value imo.

1. Barnes
2. Crawford/Eubanks
3. Higginbotham

Re: Keep Krall in the pen

YOU DO REALIZE HE IS COMING BACK SO HE CAN BE A STARTER TO HELP HIM OUT WHEN HE GETS DRAFTED NEXT YEAR. SMALL DETAIL I KNOW.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe Higginbotham moves to the pen

Jun 13, 2016, 11:46 AM [ in reply to Keep Krall in the pen ]

for this year. Coming off an injury it may be better to ease him in.

EUBANKS WILL BE A STARTER

Jun 13, 2016, 11:53 AM

THAT'S ALSO A DISTINCT POSSIBILITY

Logan Davidson will factor heavily into the infield. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts at SS. His stock really increased this season, and he would've been a high draft pick if he was signable. Named North Carolina Player of the Year.

Yeah, losing Kieboom really hurt, but it's not like it wasn't expected by those around college baseball. Davidson will be a factor and I'd also like to see what Grayson Byrd's got after sitting out due to transfer.

Don't think Renwick,Greene or Batson will be in the mix at third. If so we don't have the quality we need coming in.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think Greene has a lot of potential at 2nd

Jun 13, 2016, 1:47 PM

too small and not a good enough arm at 3rd

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was the worst fielder on the team statistically.***

Weston Wilson was last year

Jun 14, 2016, 1:45 PM

then he moved from 3rd to 2nd and was pretty good. Outside of Williams pretty much everybody who played 3rd this year had a really bad fielding % at 3rd, and if you take out Williams' numbers from 1st base his numbers probably aren't that great either.

3rd isn't his natural position. As someone who played 2nd base growing up it's a lot differnet to move to different infield spots. You oculd tell Greene didn't feel totally comfortable at 3rd, but he may be a solid 2nd baseman, he just looks like a 2nd baseman to me, tbh.

Re: New Story: Tigers starting to take shape for 2017

Jun 13, 2016, 5:07 PM

I think we need to put Byrd at 3rd (where he mainly played at LSU), put Grant Cox or Logan Davidson at SS, not play Greene, he can't hit, put Weston Jackson at 2nd.
My opinion, the lineup should look like:
C- Williams
1B- Beer
2B- Jackson
SS- Grant Cox (or Davidson)
3B- Byrd
LF- Rohlman
CF- Pinder
RF- Bryant
DH- Davidson (or Grant Cox)
Rotation:
1. Krall
2. Barnes
3. Eubanks
4. Crawford
5. Higginbotham
Go Tigers! I can't wait for this upcoming season! Love the Seth Beer to 1st move!

True freshman at SS is a tough job, probably tougher than 3rd.

Jun 14, 2016, 4:58 PM [ in reply to Re: New Story: Tigers starting to take shape for 2017 ]

Greene isn't going to hit .300 but his OBP is through the roof... 3rd highest on the team behind only Beer and Okey. He just flat out gets on base. If he could hit even .270 that would be huge for us considering how much he walks and gets HBPs.

Seth who?

Jun 13, 2016, 8:30 PM

Is Seth Pinder any relation to Chase Pinder?
