Just remember, Santa Clara was chosen as a National Championship location over...

Jan 3, 2019, 1:43 PM

other locations for the 2017-2020 season title. Here's who submitted and was selected for those seasons:

New Orleans - selected for 2019
Atlanta - selected for 2017
Miami - selected for 2020
Santa Clara - selected for 2018
Charlotte
Minnesota
Detroit
San Antonio
Houston

I'd take San Antonio, Houston, and Charlotte over Santa Clara.

National Championship Sites, by season (actual game will be in the following year):
2015 - Glendale, AZ
2016 - Tampa, FL
2017 - Atlanta, GA
2018 - Santa Clara, CA
2019 - New Orleans, LA
2020 - Miami Gardens, FL
2021 - Indianapolis, IN
2022 - Inglewood, CA (LA Stadium in Hollywood Park)
2023 - Houston, TX

I agree, San Antonio, Houston, and Charlotte would have been far better sites. I was in San Antonio a few years back and really enjoyed it.

People are realizing that the best seat in the house is watching it on TV, with unlimited viewing angles, slow-motion, and instant replay. With large screen TV, and the refrigerator right at hand, I graciously grant my seat to some hardy soul.

$1500-2000 per person can go a long way at most people's houses!

Charlotte will not be chosen for a NCG because their are not enough hotel rooms available for two fan bases that may come from outside the daytrip radius! Makes cents... but not dollars...

Ummm...
Yet they can host over 200,000 fans for raceday?

I know some of them camp out, but I feel you're wrong.

Also, all of the selections thus far are either warm in January or have an indoor stadium. Charlotte does not offer this.

I agree with this, Charlotte would be a toss up with the weather in January for sure. But on the 200K for raceday, I would think the majority of that 200K drives to Charlotte, and doesn't stay in Charlotte. Are their even race fans anywhere outside of a driving distance of Charlotte? That is a serious question - I haven't watched one lap of racing in 15 years.

As a former race fan in proximity to Darlington and Charlotte, yes NASCAR is very much a commuter sport. Trust me - I've waited 3-4 hrs to get out of parking lots. RVs, campers and day trip commuters to watch races.

this is true, but I actually think it might be kind of entertaining to have a championship game played with snow on the field. Not some place where it's 10 below zero in January, but where it might be 20, with snow falling.

NBA all star game gave the same reason in the past so they built several more hotels uptown. I think the biggest factor would be an outdoor stadium in a climate that’s not Florida.
