That, given our schedule, we have very little room for error to make the playoffs yet again, which means that we really need to go undefeated through the ACCCG … and a 28 game winning streak would tie us for (only) 15th all-time in D1 football. Win another Natty and be 30-0, and we would be tied with OK for #11 all time. Just sayin' … pressure on the team builds enormously with each W.

Each game is the most important game, only that game not the last or the next. Each and every drive on either side of the ball is the most important, not the one before or the next. Each and every play is the most important, not the last or the next.

That mindset eliminates the pressure of the season and other distractions. It's called focus. When one brings that type of focus to any activity the pressure falls away like leaves in Autumn. The more it's practiced the more focused one can become.

Focus is the greatest hurtle in sports. This is how I trained a pitcher. Look at the last play only to evaluate what went right or wrong and how to reproduce or refine what when right and how to prevent what went wrong. It just takes a second to do if the kid is in command of the mechanics of his body and the play.

every year our team's goals are

win the opener
win the division
win the state
win the conference

the rest takes care of itself. There is a reason not to include going undefeated as a goal.
