Dabo's Been Unusually Silent During these latest Changes

Aug 1, 2020, 7:42 AM

He's never been at a loss for words and I wonder why he's been in whisper mode. Had his agent, AD, Prez or wife told him to lay low?

I would like to hear what he has to say.

changing landscape and trying to figure out if it is worth the long term commitment. Don't be surprised if he walks away from it all in the next two years. I wouldn't blame him a bit. Between paying athletes and marxist indoctrination, these changes are the antithesis of Dabo's philosophy.

Marxist indoctrination? The heck you talking about?

Clemson is easily one of the most conservative public universities in the Southeast. Their poli sci and economics departments are funded by the Koch Bros/Koch Industries. They even have the "Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism" for both departments.

And compared to some our neighbors (SCar, UNC, UGA, UT-Knoxville, etc.), we have one of the smallest and quietest LGBTQ communities. Clemson is nowhere near to being a "Marxist indoctrination factory".

Also, nothing about the current moment is Marxist. I was a history major at Clemson and my focus was socialist movements. No one is saying "seize the means of production" or "nationalize X industry". Not everything to the left of Adam Smith is Marxist.

Once you start calling everything "marxist" then nothing is. Seriously, go read what Marx actually wrote in pieces like Das Kapital and look at what current movements are saying. There is literally no serious push to make the US or the world Marxist right now. We already had that (the Cold War) and we know how that turned out. Seriously, the Clemson history department would have a real issue with describing the current movements as Marxist. There's nothing remotely Marxist about it. This is what happens when you don't get information outside of your Facebook or cable news bubble.

Aug 1, 2020, 2:58 PM

that are as dangerous or more dangerous than the Maniacal Left themselves.

I must presume that you're NOT aware that the NBA was called out this week by the notably Liberal ESPN for its relationship with Communist China? he NBA has development camps over there that are operated by the Chinese Government. One such camp was described as like a "labor camp" where Coaches actually beat players.

I must also presume that you aren't aware of the on-going deliberate censorship of Conservative users in venues such as Facebook, Google, YouTube, and Twitter. Even the President himself has been cut off at times, to include even a campaign advertisement of his.

This is just a couple of examples that highlight how EDUCATION does not necessarily mean AWARENESS, or even INTEGRITY.

The LEFT has determined that they can take over America if they just keep LYING; and that is because some people are too ignorant to understand when they're being lied to, other people will ignore the lying, and yet other people don't care about lies so long as they get the result that they want. It is, indeed, just all about winning.

Which group are you in?

Aug 2, 2020, 12:36 PM

Marxists know theirs is a failed ideology, so they carefully avoid saying what they actually mean. Then they can claim they aren't pushing for Marxism because "nobody is saying 'seize the means of production.'"

They know they have to lie to get what they want, and they have no principles beyond "gain power," so they will gaslight you until it's too late.

Knowing Dabo...

Aug 1, 2020, 9:18 AM

He's hunkered down, making plans for a number of scenarios that can and will occur this season.

He's a master at planning and preparing, and he doesn't want to be caught off guard by anything that could happen. He wants the staff and the team to be ready for anything and everything possible.

That and he probably tried to slip in a last bit of vacation here lately.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To be honest im glad he’s been silent recently

Aug 1, 2020, 10:01 AM

No reason for him to say anything and have the media jump all over him again. You see how quickly they turned on Orgeron for simply saying Louisiana needs football

interviews. I like it when he comes on with Herbie or Fowler for interviews and is visible to recruits that way. But he will never give an interview to some peopel again. They all just turned on him like a pack of dogs, even Reece Davis. That was particularly disappointing. None of them had any room to even be speculating the way they were. They know Dabo and they know what he's about. But some couldn't resist to run their mouths on shows. And some of them had absolutely no business being in a postition to speculate or incorrectly judge.

One day they even started creating news in that they thought they would get some traction about what coaches took a pay cut or not. I never saw any of them volunteering paycuts at ESPN.

And of course, Finebaum hasn't had an interview with Dabo in years and will certainly never get another. That goes without saying. Sapakof will never get another. And Finebaum had plenty to apologze for with much worse comments in recent yeas.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Agree. If I were him, I'd really give the media very few

Aug 1, 2020, 12:33 PM

I believe you're right on all counts. Finebaum fawns all over Dabo one day, the next he's looking for the softest spot to stick a knife. The only reason I ever watched his show, was for the comedy relief provided by the bama call in fans. Sapakof always struck me as someone that wants to be relevant, but never will be. I haven't read any of his junk in a long time.

Dabo made it very clear that everything he does starts with

Aug 1, 2020, 2:46 PM

the Cross as a basis for ethical and moral action. The Media then tried to pin him on the Cross for his comment. Ultimately Dabo publicly caved on BLM.

We also see what the Media is doing to Johnathan Isaac of the NBA, who decided to stand rather than kneel during the Anthem and decided not to wear a BLM shirt. Isaac is an ordained minister. You'd think people would have some, what, "tolerance"? Yet HOF Coach Steve Kerr took it upon himself to use his position and prestige to enunciate the idea that the protests were "not" derogatory to the Flag or the Country. And 18 hours later, Kerr had 106K "likes".

106,000 versus 1 - THIS is how these people operate. They're Tyrants of the 1st degree.

Face it: America is a Liberal, Secular Sh*thole that no longer has "tolerance" for anything but Liberal Social views. Mark my words, 20 years from now they'll be putting Christians in jail for wearing Religious attire or showing the Cross in public.

But the way some of the jack ##### out there, writing his words to suit their context, and their narrative, he's probably gonna just be real with his team and recruits. It's probably getting old to him, When he says something with only the best of intentions and a hack with an agenda manipulates those words to suit his cause. Just my thoughts.

Aug 1, 2020, 1:03 PM

In no particular order.

1. Obviously, he's working extremely hard on the recruiting front. Just look at the results.

2. Control the controlables. No reason to speak out about the schedule since it is out of his control.

3. Work with the team and the coaches. Get everyone adjusted to the "new norm."

4. Get the kids educated on how their lives are gonna be different on campus this Fall.

Note: I suspect that virtually all athletes will take on-line course only and will be spending almost all their time from breakfast through evening study halls in the athletic compound. Gotta get them to buy in to the changes.

Re: your point?***

Aug 1, 2020, 8:28 PM

Please explain "Jesus didn't beat the man" who is the man Jesus did not beat. Jesus conquered it all on the cross and being resurrected three days later. Jesus beat death, hades, and the grave.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it's a bit of a double entendre...

Aug 2, 2020, 2:27 AM

Jesus' victory was purely metaphysical, he left the Jews wanting for an earthly victory over Rome that they had thought was coming.

In that sense then Jesus did not beat "The Man" - the government, the Law, the Police - of 1960's hippie vernacular.

He also did not completely win over "men" from their earthly desires and pursuits.

Dabo does not have this metaphysical victory available directly to him - he's limited as a man as the rest of us, and separate from the Christ while here on earth.

So I was noting that he too has been shown his limitations by our Government, by Societal Institutions, by the general Public - all the sorts that eventually put Jesus to his death. In seeing his limitations, how the ridiculous mob can rise up in its unruly and evil form, I think Dabo's become less willing to put himself on display (the OP's point) with the media and is going to focus more on his direct work with his Program.

That's just MHO.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: it's a bit of a double entendre...

Aug 2, 2020, 4:49 PM

Your story sounds plausible, however, Jesus had an option to destroy "The Man" through his Father God Almighty but his kindness and mercy toward mankind won the day. All Dabo can do, as has been stated many times, is control what he can - nothing more and nothing less.

As far as I'm concerned, he doesn't have to speak for me to know he's preparing the team and coaches for whatever happens this season, as well as, keeping his spiritual life in order.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

getting to the OP's point though

Aug 2, 2020, 5:44 PM

I think people would be insincere to suggest that Dabo acted for a long time like he thought all he had to do was keep doing good, keep having a positive attitude, keep spreading the love, and everyone would keep being positive to him.

I truly think it has hurt his soul to find out that, really, that isn't how the world works. There are clearly people in this Country who so despise what he stands for that they'll oppose him no matter how much good he does or what his intentions are. In short, they'll try to tear him down in the ling run, no matter what.

I think that caught him by surprise, has sincerely hurt him (which it might should), and has altered his way of thinking going forward, especially as it concerns the Media.

Aug 1, 2020, 3:27 PM

......he's focused on his job? The one he is paid quite well to excel at? I doubt he's concerned about the NBA, ESPN, Finnebaum, the supposed Marxist takeover of the US, the reticence of the LGBTQ community at Clemson, Facebook, Google or any other agenda.

He has a new schedule to manage and not a lot of time to get it done. I doubt he has lost one bit of sleep over some of the junk that's rolled around the past few months. He's smart enough to know that when you reach the top - and stay there a while - you're going to take some shots. It goes with the territory. The best way to silence critics is to prove them wrong through what got you to the top to begin with. And if Clemson is like any other major organization going through change, they have probably decided - as it should be - the President will speak for the university while the changes are still happening.

Perhaps.....but in my experience which is mostly with CEOs of big companies, there is a difference. Be it sports, politics, entertainment, business....the folks who make it to the top have just a little different makeup. Criticsim lights their inner fire. It gives them that extra bump to propel forward. Just my opinion. It creates a challenge and these guys love a challenge.

Aug 1, 2020, 8:25 PM

Complete with his rock solid value system, his faith, and a steady ham-handedness that makes him enjoy news cameras, microphones and his own message. And that's a good thing. Clemson has been very fortunate to see Coach Swinney develop into one of the top two coaches in the country. And Coach "Aw Shucks" Swinney continues to develop and realize national events have supplanted the authority of even the most powerful and sincere college coaches. In today's terrain, that means pulling back just a bit from the poisonous media tribe.

I have noticed almost all coaches have been quiet. Y guess is that schools have told them to let the school comment on all that is going on with Covid. It’s not worth coaches speculating and better for school to speak with a unified voice.

Re: Dabo's Been Unusually Silent During these latest Changes

Zero upside for Dani to comment on anything but commitments and Fall Camp. I particularly hope he avoids the PAC 12 boycott issue. I am sure he is like many of us and feel issues surrounding safety were logically laid out. Most people would be on board with the players voicing concerns over safety. Adding all the other politically motivated points diluted that message.

Dabo thinks college sports should be an amateur model. What was presented by the PAC 12 players was largely version of a professional model.

We have already seen that some of the media will immediately start making the point that Dabo makes 10 million a year of the backs of these kids. They never mention that because he was a player under the same system who made the most of his opportunities to get him where he is.
