John Roberts puts hold on congressional demands for...

Nov 18, 2019, 6:56 PM

8 years of Trump's tax returns.

My understanding is that congressional power to investigate the IRS and examine personal and business income tax returns is such that they are overseeing the IRS to make sure the IRS is following fair and accurate procedures.

They are not empowered to weaponize their (IRS') power against citizens.

But hey, I'm just an ignorant hillbilly injun who never studied law. Maybe the lunge lawyers will chime in and fix my misconceptions.

I don't really get the big deal about the tax returns.

If the President was doing something illegal in his taxes, then I think the IRS would have found it.

I've been ignoring "tax return" stories since about January 2017.

Trump likely is not a billionaire, his returns would probably prove that. I think that is one lie that his supporters will not turn away from.

lulz..why would that one matter?***

because he ran on being a successful business man, if it turned out that he was in covered in debt and a failure, then I think his presidency would lose a bit of its luster with his more ardent, knuckle dragging supporters.

Exactly. You nailed it. It’s not about looking for something illegal.

Nov 20, 2019, 7:00 AM

It’s about showing his supporters, look, he completely manipulated you and is a fraud, and he is not the person you thought you elected. This all assuming his returns do indeed show that.

However, since his followers haven’t already realized that after everything we already know about him, I doubt that will change if his returns show him to be a failure of a businessman. Their worship is blind to anything negative about trump.

That was kind of my point.

If the guy is a dumb, civil war mongering, fascist, lying Russian asset who is planning a coup like has been stated in here...why would his income taxes matter?

I've read he destroys everyone who is against him..so would that just happen?

You're thinking with your emotions.

Trump donates his salary to various gov departments and so far has given away about $1.5 mil. That's not something a broke man would do.

he would have to list his gains and losses on all of his holdings in the form of capital gains. It would give a very clear picture of his total net worth.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

while i know nothing of the presidents situation

Nov 20, 2019, 12:08 AM

close to 2/3 of my net worth is nowhere on an income tax filing

how would the reporting of gains and losses...

clear a clear picture of his net worth?

I assume much of his worth is in real estate that doesn't have that many transactions within a year.

Even on stocks, etc...gains and losses, obviously, only occur when positions are sold.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Realized gains and losses only
