Coach Brent Venables believes the samething for his defense. The spread requires that you cover more of the field and a 6'4" safety who runs a 4.6 forty can cover more ground and get his hands on more balls than a 6'0" safety who runs a 4.4. He wants tall long arm DE also to block throwing lanes.

It's true that Jimbo has added a lot more skill and athletic talent. The other thing that is true is that he has added a lot less character to his squad (and that says a lot after following the king of low life Bobby Bowden). What a low class program, enabled by Dumbo Fisher who would give used car salesmen good names (sorry for the slap to the face of used car salesmen). He is the ultimate enabler of poor character, but as long as his players are skilled on the field.

Not sure I'd target prospects based on size alone. Heres why

The knock on Vic Beasley by some prior to the NFL Draft was concerns over his size. Anybody actually think he's not big enough t play in the NFL?

We all remember when Appalachian State defeated Michigan some time ago. Did the bigger team win then?

Boise State has maintained a sustained level of success even against better foes such as Oklahoma, Oregon, and others. The Broncos were not always the larger team on the field and yet they've had plenty of success.

Alabama, usually, is one of the larger teams in the country. One won't argue that the Tide are a bad program but if size is the determining then shouldn't Auburn, a team of comparable size, or for that matter Arkansas be in the same category of enormous squads with sustained elite accomplishments? Speaking of the Crimson Tide, many will recall the size differential of the Sugar Bowl when Alabama played Utah or perhaps the home loss to UAB.

No wonder Saban has asked for more time in order for the defensive team to get lined up properly. It would appear that the spread may have evened things up a bit. Like they say, it's not always the size of the wave but rather the motion of the ocean. (Wait, what) I kid but games aren't won based upon roster implications.

Yeah but it sure does impress the media.***
