GD on the radio

Nov 17, 2020, 9:20 AM

That's not right, is it? I really like The Killers and My Own Soul's Warning is a good song except for using GD. How is that allowed on local radio reference X98.5?

depends on your definition of "grossly offensive" is, what time it plays, and if it considered artistic.

You can call the FCC to report if you want.

Eagles - "Life in the Fast Lane"

Nov 17, 2020, 10:12 AM

been hearing this one since the '70's, on every mealy, middle-of-the-road station around. NEVER heard it censored.

Blowin' and burnin', blinded by thirst
They didn't see the stop sign
Took a turn for the worst
She said, "Listen, baby
You can hear the engine ring
We've been up and down this highway
Haven't seen a god-#### thing"
He said, "Call the doctor
I think I'm gonna crash"
"The doctor say he's coming but you gotta pay in cash"
They were rushing down that freeway
Messed around and got lost
They didn't care, they were just dyin' to get off

For the "music" that coming out now, thats pretty light.

Nov 17, 2020, 10:48 AM

Basically songs have become all the words I would have gotten slapped for using when I was a kid.

There's not much imagination left I guess, and the shock of hearing those words in a song is gone.

When you hear something like "W.A.P", its not that its shocking, its poor quality music.

I agree. There is a lack of quality and creativity...

in pop songs in general.
As for the reference in "My Own Soul's Warning" by The Killers, there's a lot of meaning in his words. It is very different to hear a devoutly religious man (Flowers, the singer and song's writer) use those words in that expressive context. The song is full of struggle and expression...which I feel is the opposite of songs like "WAP" (a severely immature expression of the reptilian brain).

Flowers is not immune to using cheese, however. In the song "Blowback" @ the 1:10 mark, he says: "she's sucking on a tic tac". It cracks me up to the point where I can barely focus on the song's meaning, but it is a pretty good song:
