I commend your post. I am 65 and will retire in April at age 66. Class of '69. And yes, I look forward to that time of reunion as well!

I lost my Dad this past September. I worried all my life about what it would be like to lose him at an earlier age. Fortunately, we were blessed to have him until age 87 ... without my Dad's influence, I would more than likely never have gained an affiliation with Clemson that included resident, graduate, employee, fan ... a 50+ year relationship that continues to this day. Thanks so much Dad ... :)

I retired in 2008 - am class of 74. My Dad also passed at what I thought was a early age - 54 - two days prior to graduation and I miss him everyday. He was a giant Tiger fan - took me to my first Clemson - Coot game in '59 and I was hooked for life. I hope your memories are as good as mine.

Great post, losing ones dad is difficult.

Jan 22, 2013, 2:30 PM

My dad was ten years older when I was born (47) than your dad was when he passed away. I always worried about losing my dad at a young age but he lived until I was almost 35 then sadly he passed away two days after my first child was born at the age of 81. I still have wonderful memories of evenings at Tiger Field with him.

Sept. 25, 2013....my dad would be 94

Jan 22, 2013, 2:40 PM

Dad passed Dec. 14, 2008. Wore his Orange Blazer, Paw tie, and Tiger Slippers through the Pearly Gates. I know he asked God if there were any Gamecocks there.

Dad was 1941 graduate, and I miss him every day. Dad does live in Mom, who is almost 98(she robbed the cradle) and LOVES her Tigers, too. I see so much of him in her, and you are supposed to recognize that, being they were married 66+ years.

Blessings to all those here who had a Tiger for a Dad and/or Mom. We all know the joys.

Ron

Dad. There were surely some mighty fine people there in those days, as there has been since. I'm sorry you lost him while so young; however, he will always be a Clemson Tiger...and the spirit of The Tigers that he carried lives on through you. Peace, my Friend.

It'll be 41 years next month since I lost my daddy.

Jan 22, 2013, 4:25 PM

I was 19 and he was 36. I was in the middle of rebelling against all authority, a really bad time to part.

Sometimes I dream about him. I always wake up crying, not because I miss him but because I feel like I just got to see him one more time.

I believe he will be waiting for you! I hit 65 in Dec. Was fortunate to retire earlier. Lost my Dad 10 yrs. ago and I can still here him knocking on the door, saying, "Rise and shine! Time to hit the floor running, son!"

To your Dad!!!!

Jan 22, 2013, 7:46 PM

You lost him awfully young. I did not truly understand the feeling until I lost my Dad unexpectedly in May, two days after his 70th birthday. He was four days away from retiring from a 40-year career as a family doctor.
I think there is something about "Clemson people" that is truly special. It sounds like your Dad had it and so did mine. The memories of my Dad at Clemson games and watching with him on TV are some of the most vivid and special of all.
To all the Clemson Dad's out there!!! Go Tigers!!!!!!!

65 here and class of 1969. This has been a most enjoyable thread to read. My dad was a Tiger fan and was telling the doctors about our win over FSU (they were coots) a few days before he passed away. His first game in heaven we beat the coots 63-17.

I've seen it today in these posts and this thread. It has actually become a blanket. So many lives here wonderfully intertwined.
You can bet we all can find peace in the fact we have our Family and the Clemson Family.
God Bless You All.
