I can’t figure out why the fighting crimson tide doesn’t strike fear in my heart! What exactly is a crimson tide?
How does it relate to an elephant?

Dangit, you beat me to it. I guess Crimson is supposed to be a particularly terrifying shade of the Reds. Because, there ain't nothing terrifying about Tide, unless you're dirty laundry.

I always thought that was the type of Tide they used to wash the elephant, thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm glad I never told anyone that was what the crimson tide meant!!!

The only thing that I can find that describes the term crimson tide is it apparently describes a woman’s menstrual flow,

describing them marching down the field like an unstoppable "tide of crimson." Sort of like Munsberger made the hill "the most exciting 25 seconds in college football." I think it happened back in the 30s, maybe Old Joe can enlighten us on that as it was before my time.
