Lunge Advice plz - good +/-UPD place to buy a +/-LDR suit?

Nov 16, 2018, 10:45 AM

Recently got rid of my only two suits...one because fat, the other because moths (apparently...possible ###### up dry cleaning). I MAYBE wear a suit once a year. I was obvi planning on picking up another or 2, but lazy, and haven't....

Now I need one, but we also happen to be spending a shitton of monies on several other things, and hope to get one without any additional dings to the wallet.

Do your standard 'chain' suit places have Black Friday deal(do)s? Men's Wearhouse or Jos A Banks or something??

Any other rec's?

I'm not expecting any usable info, just FYI.

I recommend

Nov 16, 2018, 10:48 AM

Hamrick’s of Gaffney.

As long as you get rid of it before you need it dry cleaned theirs look pretty dang good for the price.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Imma be honest. I only wear suits a couple of times a year

Nov 16, 2018, 10:56 AM

too. Wasn't about to drop a whole lotta cash on one or two. Went here:

https://alaindupetit.com/

Yep. $40. Figured what the he||. Turns out they're not terrible. Just go get 'em tailored.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've been eyeing this one.

Charles Tyrwhitt.

Amazing prices and as custom as you can get without custom.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

good quality??

Nov 16, 2018, 11:36 AM

I checked them out a couple times after i've gotten their shirt mailers, and forgot about'em...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure about suits, but not a fan of their shirts.***

Re: good quality??

Nov 16, 2018, 11:44 AM [ in reply to good quality?? ]

In my opinion, yes. Especially if you are not an everyday suit/shirt guy. If you are, go spend Brooks Brothers money. Have their shirts that I have had 10+ years.

Charles Tyrwhitt’s store in DC is where I finally bought in and they have been great. I am a bean poke, so hard to find stuff that fits. Their suits do well.

Any of those Jermyn Street shops produce a quality suit at the price most folks look for.

Indochino........black friday sale coming.

Nov 16, 2018, 11:41 AM

Buy yer suit online, go to ATL or Charlotte to get a fitting in their retail location, and profit.

I think I would pay thousands of dollars more just to not

Nov 16, 2018, 11:49 AM

I get, and appreciate, this joke.

Nov 16, 2018, 12:00 PM

I had quite the internal chuckle!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've heard mixed reviews as far as Indochina

Nov 16, 2018, 3:59 PM [ in reply to I would too...except I might actually be IN ATL on Black Fri ]

They supposedly get your size at the store and then make it and ship to you, butt I've heard their sizing is often very off. I also think Black Friday it's going to be even more rushed and sloppy.

I've heard good things about Suit Supply, there is one in Atlanta...not sure if they ship or what. Also curious about trying Bonobos for suits, their wool dress slacks are great

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd checked out Bonobos a little earlier...a little TOO LDR

Nov 16, 2018, 4:35 PM

for what I'm looking for...

I like their pants tho

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I haven't gotten a suit from them yet, but I will.

Nov 17, 2018, 12:25 PM [ in reply to I would too...except I might actually be IN ATL on Black Fri ]

A buddy has gotten a couple and loves them....not sure where SST has heard the negativity but glowing reviews here in Nashville, and if there were any fit tweakings needed they would reimburse you to have additional alterations made in Greenville.

I don't think you need to actually be in store on Black Friday. You can pay for the suit in advance (at the sale price) and then get fitted later.

Re: Lunge Advice plz - good +/-UPD place to buy a +/-LDR suit?

Also as an FYI, not suit talk, but I bought some Untuckit shirts and they are worth every dime. Especially if you are tall. Best money I have spent in a long while.

https://www.untuckit.com

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've wanted to get some of those, but I can't get away with

Nov 16, 2018, 11:54 AM

no tuck...and I'm just fat enough that regular shirts still look the right length untucked ;)

edit: can't get away with it at work***

The store in LaJolla serves you liquor while you shop

Nov 16, 2018, 4:48 PM [ in reply to Re: Lunge Advice plz - good +/-UPD place to buy a +/-LDR suit? ]

I was able to get a good buzz going on a slow weekday in that store. Bought 3 shirts, but have received a TON of junk mail from them since.

Shirts make my fattie look less fattie

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I used to buy nice wool suits at Banana Republic

Nov 16, 2018, 12:49 PM

good slim fit Italian wool suits with free alterations.

Nov 16, 2018, 1:01 PM

mah bday...just checked online, always assumed their suits were more $$$ than that

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Make sure to buy it two sizes too small

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Express usually has some good sales on suits

Nov 16, 2018, 2:27 PM

J. Crew has some very nice off the rack suits, but they're not cheap at all. They do sometimes have sales, especially online.

My problem is that I've had to wear suits most days of the week throughout my whole career, and I keep getting holes in the pants in the inner thigh because of my thighs rubbing together. I'm not even fat, either :(

Woul fix that.

I AM fat, plus

Nov 16, 2018, 3:52 PM [ in reply to Express usually has some good sales on suits ]

anyone who's ever lifted a weight in their life can't get their arms in J Crew shirts.

I think the same goes for Express & their euro-sizing

I tend to wait for a Jos a Bank sale. But get your own tailor as the onsite folks typically suck.

Here's a recommended tailor
