Bostic before Krall?

Jun 10, 2016, 7:17 PM

Good for him but I see Krall as a top-ten round player and Bostic as a 20th-round player.

Unfortunately for Krall, teams aren't after a guy with an 86 mph fastball. Hope he gets a shot, though. And, I hope he makes the best of it. He was a great Tiger for a year!

Baseball v. Basketball & Football Cueshion

Jun 10, 2016, 11:57 PM

Maybe, you guys have explained all of this before, but I missed it.
Whatever the case, I'm sure my questions are far from new ones.

What are the rules for early departure and signed recruits in college baseball?
Can baseball players leave after a single year and signed recruits skip altogether if they want?

College football and basketball must be more or less the minor leagues, if so.

TIA

Players can sign a major contract at 3 different stages.

1) Directly after finishing their 12th year of school or graduating high schools
2) Players that have finished their Junior year of college or turned 21 years of age.
3) Senior players who have complete eligibility

JUCO players can be drafted after any season.
These rules are for US citizens. International player have another set of screwy rules.

High School and College players that were drafted this week/end have until July 15th to sign with the professional team that drafted them. If they do not sign, the player is back into the draft pool for the next time they are eligible and the MLB team may receive a compensation pick the following year.

The National Letter of Intent is non binding and has no legal bearing or otherwise standing outside the NCAA. A player can and often signs the LOI and uses this as a bargaining chip. "If you don't pay me X amount, then I will go play college ball and take my chances in 3 years."

If a HS player is drafted and does not sign, then the LOI is in effect for his college. The next time the player can be drafted is after their Junior year or when they turn 21.

If a player after his junior season is drafted he also has until July 15th to sign or he goes back into the draft pool the following year.

If a high school player enrolls in college under a NLOI and attends a single class then he is bound to the school and the drafted team loses the player. Even before July 15th

It used to be a staggered date. Players were signable until they attended their first class. There were stories of players literally being stopped as they walked into the classroom because the MLB team had reached a deal with their rep.

Today is July 15th. Sign by the 15th or head to class in the fall.
