It’s time for a black President of Clemson University.

[3]
Posted: Jun 14, 2020, 8:48 AM

If anyone wants to help with input, I am drafting a letter to the Board of Trustees and the current President.

Within the next month, we need to begin a national search for a black president.

By the start of the 20-21 academic year, Clements needs to step down we need to install our beloved university’s first black president.

Do y’all think Jim Clements will support this, seeing as it is the right thing to do and long overdue?

I am quite certain there is a succession plan already in place to fill that position with the most qualified person available.

2021 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg

But the Board of Trustees needs to be only people of color

or else you’ll just get the same perpetuation of systemic racism that is the defining characteristic of Clemson University.

What percent of the student body and faculty is black?

Re: It’s time for a black President of Clemson University.

Is it not racist to say4 that only one race or creed can be the next University President in stead of taking the most qualified one. Clemson University used to mean that one had to earn their way and grades. I do not care if the next president is pink with purple polka dots. Just make sure that this person can do the job. I am not interested if this one is PC, just able to get the job done. Also let the students enjoy their rights within normal parameters.

Yet somehow we got Max Lennon.

After all it's all about the color of ones skin...not the nature of their character...does not matter what they've earned in life or what price advancement has cost...while we are on this one lets look at what comprises the makeup of fans in the football stadiums in college and professional sports...when bubba gets tired of this 'crap' he'll turn in his season tickets and the whole house of cards will come tumbling down...hope Watkins and Watson have 'agricultural' skills! Probably could grow great tomatoes in death valley...heck we already have 'water'! After all we've already had a black 'president' and he was a jewel!

this is a great idea, we should not evaluate any white candidates and

[3]
Posted: Jun 14, 2020, 9:08 AM

And only evaluate minorities. Maybe we could put a grading system in place based on shade of skin as part of the evaluation? Whatever happened to affirmative action?

I don't know about Clements, but I can tell you I'm not quiting my job and livelihood so that a person with a different skin shade can be hired to replace me. Would you? It sounds like that would be promoting racism, which is exactly what most of us are opposed to.

Then you must be a racist

Only 2 sides. Racist or blm

Choosing someone just because of their color

[4]

is just as bad, and even riskier than not choosing someone because of their color.

But racists don't understand that.

This is a great plan. Has Clements ever put on black face? Maybe there is a video of him in 1989 using the N word!

Maybe his great great grandpa owned slaves or was friends with someone who did!

About as bad an idea as my saying we need more White football players & some of our very good Black players need to step down.

I personally think Clements is doing a good job as the current President. If I change my mind in the future it will be because I disagree with his direction for the university, not because I think “its time” for a change.

Many of the responses were hateful. In a world where love needs to conquer all. Disappointing.

I was most interested to find out if people thought Jim Clements should support something like this...or if he should draw the line where it could negatively affect his own position in life.

Yeah, it’s clear what you’re doing, and it’s stupid. They’re changing the name. It will have almost zero effect on anyone except pissing some people off and making some other people feel a little more part of the community. You choose to be angry and snarky. That’s your problem and no one else’s. Grow up.

Be glad to.

rac·ism
/?r??siz?m/
noun

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group

Discriminating against a person based on their race is racism which is what you are advocating for in your original message.

I would also like to point out it is illegal to discriminate based on race.

Re: So any time an organization focuses in on hiring

If you are focusing on one group, to the exclusion of all others, then yes, you are being racist. In all actuality, you are just being plain stupid. By focusing on a quality, other than intelligence and / or capability to perform, you are begging for the worst solution.

Personally, I think you posted this, not because you actually believe what you are saying, but just trolling. Nobody could really be that stupid.

Any decent candidate would not want to be selected based on anything other than their qualifications. I do think when the job comes open they should have a slate of candidates reflective of the student body.

Absolutely it is time. And also time for a black head football coach. What percentage of the unpaid football players are black? Yet the coach being paid millions is not black. The epitome of racial injustice. Time for Dabo to step down and make way for head coach CJ Spiller, Tahj Boyd, Tony Elliott?

Thank you all for your input.

is malicious, and more specifically and intentionally racist. We get it, you have a problem with Black Americans having the same rights as you. You don’t have any genuine curiosity here, you’re afraid whatever vestige of white power you’re clinging to is going get taken away in all this.

This is about equality, real equality, nothing will be taken from you. So quit being a whiny race baiter and help us all achieve equality in America.

Very odd that I’m racist because I would advocate for a black president.

The rules must be changing by the minute with some of you.

And I trust you will not be voting for Joe Biden in November. He said his VP would definitely be black (I think a black woman, specifically) but that particular person had not been chosen yet.

Dabo should retire now so that the black coach can take over. After all, it’s not about what’s necessarily best for the program, but that he’s black.

What better way to show our current and future players, most of whom are black, that Clemson “gets it.”

You don't replace just for the sake of replacing if the person is doing a good job.
Our President has done a good job and He has been very involved in recruiting
players, black or white. Our society overreacts with feelings instead of
using common sense and the brains that God gave us!

What I am finding out in general is there's a vocal minority of knee jerk reaction people in this world. Let's do something because it is the right reason and not just because the limelight or focus is cast on Clemson. This goes for any of the mainstream media topics. Once again, the fringe right or left is wagging the dog.
