The "mask" rules are confusing...

Aug 16, 2020, 10:23 PM

My friends and I hang out at a restaurant/bar during "Happy Hour" at a place in Spartanburg. We know the owner well. He used to be open 7 days/wk., but now only 4 days - Thu-Sun. Gov. McMaster came out and said a couple/three weeks ago that everyone has to wear a mask "walking" into a restaurant or bar. At my friend's establishment you must wear a mask to enter, or even to simply walk through. However, as soon as you're seated either at the bar, or at a table, you no longer have to wear your mask, for obvious reasons. But if you stand up to walk to the rest room, or simply leave after you're finished, you must be wearing a mask. (All the staff wear gloves and masks all the time, without exception.)

People can sit at the bar side-by-side (perfect strangers) without masks, just aa a party of 5 can sit at a booth - perhaps all strangers to each other (but yes, usually family or close friends....?) I can only presume that you can't catch the Covid while sitting down, but only by walking through...?

Go Tigers!!!

It's true - COVID is a very selective contagion.

Aug 16, 2020, 11:00 PM

But the guidelines are fairly simple:

Burning police cars - no mask required
Church - mask required (unless church is prohibited, then sit home and wear a mask)
Attacking buildings - no mask required
School - mask required (if they will let you attend - if not, wear one on video, while your teacher makes notes of everything in your room)
Looting - no mask required
Voting - mask required, unless voting democrat, then vote early/vote often, repeat through the mail, Also, cast a ballot for your dead relatives, cast a ballot for your dog and cast one for the girl you dated in high school. If voting Republican, we closed your polling place and lost your ballot.

If you want to be 100% safe from COVID, start a riot and steal some stuff. If you want to be 100% sure you'll get infected, do anything that helps the economy, or go to church.

As you say: very simple.

you didn't mention that the virus knows not to cross........

conference lines.

Miami can play Clemson and Clemson can play Syracuse, but Clemson can't play an SEC team 150 miles down the road from them.

The best is use common sense and follow the scientific guidelines.

Soldiers

Aug 17, 2020, 1:45 AM

US Soldiers in Afghanistan wear full military combat gear including a full face respirator carrying a pack and firearms for 12 hours a day in 100 degree heat. They do not go home to air conditioning and a nice shower. They sleep in a tent where it might drop to 80 degrees. These heroes do this to protect us.

I’d like to hear the conversation when you tell one of these soldiers you’re confused about hanging out in a bar with your buddies and wearing a mask to protect others.

Thank you to our soldiers...

Aug 17, 2020, 9:28 AM

but using the soldier analogy to every situation is stupid. Thanks to all of our cops and first responders and soldiers and everybody else who does a job many of us wouldn't want to do, as a public service. But it's a job, they choose it. It has nothing to do with comparing their day to day life with mine.

In the war on Covid I would say March when Trump declared war on the virus and himself a war time president. But since that wasn’t the purpose of my post nor was I replying to you perhaps you should read it again for clarity.

You seem to be suggesting that because soldiers deployed overseas have it more difficult than civilians stateside, it's somehow wrong to make an observation or complain. If that's the case, you can never comment on anything because things are always worse for someone else. Guess you shouldn't complain about a restaurant bringing your food out cold because some soldier somewhere would prefer it to the MRE he's eating.

Re: Soldiers

Aug 17, 2020, 8:16 AM

No that’s not what I suggested at all. I said that since we have American heroes deployed in some pretty awful conditions to protect us, the least we can do is the simple act of wearing a mask to protect others.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not in North Carolina they’re not. Was there this weekend.

Aug 17, 2020, 6:54 AM

Basically, if you want to go in anywhere you’ll be wearing a mask. Gyms are closed. No breakfast buffet at the hotel. The Tar Heels ain’t playin’. And guess what? Their numbers are looking better.

OTOH, NYC probably has herd immunity now.

There are no right answers.

Aug 17, 2020, 7:50 AM

Just use common in sense;if you are in Georgia, wear a Dawg mask.(OK,a Georgia Tech guy just won the U.S.Amateur Golf Tournament so a Yellow Jacket mask is o.k.)
So just wear a mask representing the school you pull for and you should be o.k.
Here in Clemson ,it's "All-In".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The rules are in place because libs were having hissy fits.

Aug 17, 2020, 8:55 AM

I went to two different sports bars in York County over the weekend and no one wore a mask entering or going to the restroom. That's why both of those places will continue to get my business.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

It's not that complicated.

Aug 17, 2020, 9:14 AM

If you really struggle with it, I can't imagine how difficult cooking scrambled eggs must be for you.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They all have to do it as a CYA move. If they have complied

Aug 17, 2020, 9:30 AM

with all the confusing rules that the CDC hands down to governors as directives then they can't be sued later by someone who contracts the virus at their establishment. Its the price to be open i guess. I don't think they (CDC) knows what they're doing either. They just have to do something i guess to make it look like they're experts.

Just comply. Wait till next spring and hopefully they'll move on to the next investigation of Trump that's on the list and the hysteria will go away. If you'll notice its been that way his whole presidency. After one investigation gets debunked there is usually another that starts up about 1 to 2 weeks later. This pandemic was perfectly timed i must say. China knows what they're doing i guess.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It seems the amount of information published by...

Aug 17, 2020, 9:35 AM

the government and medical community would be sufficient to inform people about mask wearing. One rule I haven't seen anywhere since the chinavirus got here is 'DO NOT WEAR A MASK, EVER!'

From there, you're on your own.

It's because most people are partial idiots and will do

Aug 17, 2020, 9:36 AM

whatever they are led to believe is normal. Logic is far less important than fitting in and feeling important. All the finger-wagging Karens out there will use whatever narrative they are fed to bash others over the head with it. Masks are the perfect bait for midwits who need something simple and obvious to judge someone over. All they have to do is put on a meaningless face covering, and look for people who don't, and they convince themselves they are morally superior. It's very badly pathetic... but it's common.

Independent critical thinking by analyzing raw data has been destroyed over the last several decades. Any person of medium intelligence can access/read the dozens of peer-reviewed, scientific studies regarding the inefficacy of non n-95 masks in a non-clinical environment in the context of a pandemic.... but people prefer to have others do their thinking for them. Which is why news media, which is obviously centralized and corporate run, still have so much influence. People are literally addicted to letting others think for them. It never occurs to them to confirm anything for themselves by tracking down primary sources. This is why "experts" are so important to them. They can completely avoid having to do any intellectual lifting themselves if they can rely on "experts." Simply having corporate media or a politician calling someone an expert is more than enough for these midwits to feel safe parroting them and thus being "scientific" themselves.

And that's how we have all been convinced to destroy our way of life and our freedom over a new version of the flu.

Nobody has any idea what the federal reserve is... so they are extremely easy to convince that all this lockdown, stimulus, eventual mandatory vaccine garbage has nothing to do with economics. Barely anyone knows what the repo market is so they have no ability to see that all this really started at the beginning of Q4 in 2019. Slowly but surely it will be known that "Coronavirus" was in the US in 2019, as many people already suspect due to personal experience.

And it doesn't matter if someone tries to show all the midwits what is going on behind the scenes because they have been thoroughly conditioned to label EVERYTHING out of the prescribed mainstream narrative as a "conspiracy theory." That concept alone has been enough to lobotomy all of them. "Wait, something I have not already heard about....? Conspiracy theory!"

That's why these people can be told one day by Dr. Fauci (and the "scientific community") that masks don't help and only "make people feel better" and then a few weeks later, after its politicized, he argues with himself saying things that are mutually exclusive with stuff he already said. And it's why around May over a dozen or so studies on Lancet, JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, etc removed or editorialized their own peer-reviewed studies which concluded masks are likely worthless in the context of flu/Sars. But all the "experts" have to do is write a lame paragraph (not linked to any new conclusive studies) telling everyone that they have all suddenly changed their mind. And midwits are so incapable of independent thinking.... they just swallow all of it. And aggressively promote it too!

Any midwit could easily see that Sweden (no lockdown and no masks) beat COVID at this point while it drags on in much of the rest of the world. But they don't want to because they are more interested in fighting to maintain the bogus narrative they were fed by corporate media and politicians than they are for pursuing the truth. The same midwits who use Scandinavia as their template for socialist economic utopia are not allowed to do the same for masks. Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark have all concluded that universal masking is not a meaningful element of pandemic management.... but since the midwits don't think for themselves.... that info doesn't enter their thinking.
