Nov 16, 2013, 11:13 PM

I'll take shot at it... I think VT gets the first tiebreaker

If UNC beats Duke (meaning Duke beats WFU and the other teams win necessary games):

Losses listed below (Atlantic teams in parenthesis)
Coastal Teams - Duke, GT, VT, UNC, Miami, Pitt, UVA

VT: Duke, (BC, MD) - Head to head record amongst the below, 3-1
GT: VT, UM, (Clem) - Head to head, 2-2
UM: VT, Duke, (FSU) - Head to head, 2-2
Duke: GT, Pitt, UNC - Head to head, 2-2
UNC: GT, VT, UM - Head to head, 1-3

Also, self-reply, Duke would be 2-3, not 2-2... need to re-up my R :)

My take

Nov 16, 2013, 11:42 PM

Right Now:

OVERALL ACC DIVISION
W L % W L %
DUKE 4 2 0.667 3 2 0.600
GT 5 3 0.625 4 2 0.667
MIAMI 3 3 0.500 2 2 0.500
PITT 2 4 0.333 2 3 0.400
UNC 4 3 0.571 2 3 0.400
UVA 0 6 0.000 0 4 0.000
VT 4 3 0.571 4 1 0.800

Games Left:

23-Nov DUKE @ WAKE
23-Nov UVA @ MIAMI
23-Nov PITT @ SYRACUSE
29-Nov MIAMI @ PITT
30-Nov DUKE @ UNC
30-Nov VT @ UVA

We know if Duke wins out they win the Coastal as the only 2 loss team.

The biggest logjam happens if:
Duke loses to UNC and beats Wake
VT beats UVA
Miami beats UVA and Pitt

That would leave 5 teams tied at 5-3 in conference:

OVERALL ACC DIVISION
W L % W L %
DUKE 5 3 0.667 3 3 0.600
GT 5 3 0.625 4 2 0.667
MIAMI 5 3 0.500 4 2 0.500
UNC 5 3 0.571 3 3 0.400
VT 5 3 0.571 5 1 0.800

IN that case first tiebreaker is head to head among tied teams

DUKE GT MIAMI UNC VT
DUKE L W L W 2-2
GT W L W L 2-2
MIAMI L W W L 2-2
UNC W L L L 1-3
VT L W W W 3-1

Thus, VT would get the nod from that clump.

Now, 4 teams can be tied if:
Duke beats UNC and loses to Wake
VT beats UVA
Miami beats UVA and Pitt

That would leave 4 teams tied at 5-3 in conference:

OVERALL ACC DIVISION
W L % W L %
DUKE 5 3 0.667 4 2 0.600
GT 5 3 0.625 4 2 0.667
MIAMI 5 3 0.500 4 2 0.500
VT 5 3 0.571 5 1 0.800

IN that case first tiebreaker is head to head among tied teams

DUKE GT MIAMI VT
DUKE L W W 2-1
GT W L L 1-2
MIAMI L W L 1-2
VT L W W 2-1

So, the question is at this point do you discard the two teams no longer in the tie and go straight head to head with the last 2 teams (Duke/VT) standing. or do oyu move on ot the next tiebreaker (which is division record).

If the former then Duke gets the nod, if the later it is VT.

Tiebreakers restart from the start (#1) each time you complete a step and eliminate a team

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I thought that was the case

Nov 16, 2013, 11:46 PM

If so, Duke would get the nod in the last scenario listed.

It's a shame that the best two teams in the conference

Nov 17, 2013, 1:30 AM [ in reply to Re: My take ]

by far, us and FSU, won't play for the conference championship. None of those Coastal Division teams are worthy of carrying either of the top two Atlantic Division team's jockstraps.

Would love to have another shot at the Noles, especially w/o Suckinger fumbling on the first play. That just took the air out of our guys IMO.

I know, we had our shot and they kicked our behind, but I just wish that the two best teams [one conference loss between them] could go at it in the ACCCG, especially this year when the disparity between the top two teams and the rest of the league is so wide!

The ACC has 2 teams....

Nov 17, 2013, 1:48 AM

FSU and CU. The rest suck.......badly. I want an unrealistic 2nd game.

Do we believe Miami is beating Pitt?***

Quit blaming Seckinger, yea the fumble didn't help but this team has been through that before...LSU game. You cannot lose or win the game on the first play. If Stanton caused the D to give up 40+ points, and our O to #### the bed the rest of the game then my God he is a powerful man.
