The big stadium event in the '80s with flip cards.

Oct 9, 2015, 9:19 PM

I think I have seen videos on the interweb of the special pregame activities at a game in the '80s. I was there but old age, and my younger indiscretions have taken their toll and i can't remember the details (but I still remember the emotions from that day).

One of the most impressive activities was the flip cards. There were several cool designs, but I really remember the whole north stands creating an American Flag.

It was a very special event that made a great day at Death Valley phenomenal.

Can somebody fill in some more details about that day?? When was it? who were we playing? what were some of the other events in the stadium that day?

Does anyone have a link to photos or a video? I really want to show my kids (current Clemson students).

I'm pretty sure we played Maryland.

I was just a kid but I can still remember the game. Maybe 1987?

It was against Va Tech 1984. One side read "Uproar 84"

and I think the other side read "A National Tradition" or something along those lines. I believe the west endzone had a Tiger paw and each upper deck read "Clemson" and Tigers."

That was the visitor's section back then. Dang Hokie (?) fans weren't "ALL IN."

My memory is slipping pretty bad , too , but I can remember the cards once and also releasing a record 350, 000 balloons against Maryland .
