Anyone else vote in a church today?

Nov 8, 2016, 12:35 PM

Not sure how that's still a thing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I did early voting JUST so I wouldn't have to look at

Nov 8, 2016, 12:36 PM

White Jesus while I vote. Insane that this still happens.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg2012_pickem_champ.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It seriously affects you that much?

Nov 8, 2016, 12:39 PM

I think that's more insane than voting in a church. Where would you guys prefer it be held? Where my parents live, it's either the Dollar General or a church.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well there are 5 schools within 3 miles of my house.

Nov 8, 2016, 12:39 PM

Seems like a good place to start.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have a feeling somebody would find a reason to complain

Nov 8, 2016, 12:45 PM

about that too. Do pedophiles have voting rights? Maybe that would be a conflict?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's amazing what ridiculousness you guys will throw

Nov 8, 2016, 12:50 PM

out to avoid seriously considering an issue.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're complaining about having to vote in a church

Nov 8, 2016, 12:51 PM

like it's some sort of oppression and we're the ones throwing out ridiculousness?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well there have been studies done showing that

Nov 8, 2016, 12:54 PM

voting in churches influences how people cast their ballots. But I'm sure that's easily dismissed.

There was also a huge backlash after an Islamic center was considered for a polling location in Florida complete with death threats.

http://bigstory.ap.org/article/e9126ef4f6034c4f805b00403c5e5d36/polling-site-moved-florida-mosque-after-complaints

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they only complained about the Islamic center because

Nov 8, 2016, 12:54 PM

they didnt want to take their shoes off

Nov 8, 2016, 12:56 PM [ in reply to Well there have been studies done showing that ]

Instead of being a troll, you could have started the thread with this article and we could have discussed based on the article.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm sure it is. If the location of your polling place

Nov 8, 2016, 12:56 PM [ in reply to Well there have been studies done showing that ]

effects your decision, you probably shouldn't be voting in the first place.

Oh yeah, can't imagine why people wouldn't want to vote at an islamic center, not like that religion is causing global problems or anything. Yeah, yeah, I know but but christianity is soooo bad too.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

hey, all you haters. are you a member of your local

election board or whatever its called in your area?

Most of them are run by volunteers and the lowest of the low on the respective parties' totem poles. These are thankless jobs and finding facilities of sufficient size (for free) in which to hold an election is not easy. If it bothers you so much go join your local board and advocate to move it to a secular location.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-conservativealex.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nov 8, 2016, 12:54 PM [ in reply to It's amazing what ridiculousness you guys will throw ]

You walk in said building, vote and leave. How is that hurting you? How are you offended?

Shouldnt you be happy that the State/County isnt having to pay for lighting the building and using the heat? At least the congregation of that church is subsidizing that part...right? Maybe the Election Board pays the bill, but still. Who really cares? More importantly why do you want to be a victim? Did mommy not love you enough?

Nov 8, 2016, 12:41 PM [ in reply to It seriously affects you that much? ]

You have to stand in the hallway where you see things you shouldn't have to look at while voting. Then you actually cast your ballot in a "holy place" while looking at a historically inaccurate picture of a Arab Jew.

It should be held in public buildings, like community centers and schools. I can't imagine the uproar here in GA if they polled people in mosque or temple. Oh lawd. (I would be just as angry)

I did. A Unitarian one, though. It didn't bother me at all, honestly, especially since it was a 5-minute walk from my apartment.

Voted bright and early, so I got to enjoy the sunrise as I waited in line. Didn't have to stare at Jesus, white or otherwise.

Never saw a cross, the word God written other than on the street sign. Only people who attacked me were people pandering for me to vote for candidates. It could have been anywhere. I've voted in high schools, fire stations, and churches. None bothered me at all. It was pretty cool in the fire station though because you could sit on the fire truck part of the time while in line.
