This is why division will not go away...

Nov 6, 2020, 8:59 AM

and will probably get worse. The people who are smarter than everybody else dismisses ideological differences as racism. We are defining half the country as white supremacists on the public stage. Van Jones confirmed this the other night as well.

Probably because too many people believe in nutty conspiracy theories. They seem to gravitate towards to Trump. Then you add the fact that the extreme left is just out of touch with middle America and it's just a mess.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

this isn't about Trump...

Nov 6, 2020, 9:03 AM

he's gone. We'll have to find a new racist boogeyman.

Racism was the least of Trump's self inflicted wounds. I think the fact that he is full of shyatt was what took him down.

1. Trump
2. Many people posting on here with their nutty conspiracy theories.
3. Didn't you think Obama was a secret Muslim from Kenya? (joking of course) I don't know what you believed.

I wonder where this is going on...

Nov 6, 2020, 9:27 AM

I talk politics with a lot of Trump supporters, educated and simple, "secret Satanic child-sex trafficking ring run by Democratic politicians and celebrities" has never come up in a conversation. The only time I have even heard this conspiracy is from news accounts.

Not saying it's not happening, but even in the redneck areas, I have never heard this.

Of interest in the article, it seems really odd that 69% of Biden voters are aware QAnon while only 48% of Trump supporters are.

Re: I wonder where this is going on...

It's happening. I know a few Trump supporters that believe all of Q stuff. Also, I used to spend a lot of time in the bar. It's not uncommon.

questions that will show you believe any number of crazy things, if I dont tell you that is what I am trying to get you to say.

That's the oldest trick in the book, actually. "Sir, just answer yes or no. Do you believe X? Do you believe y? Aha!"

this feels a little like the polling to me...

Nov 6, 2020, 9:54 AM

I'm not saying it's not going on. We had a freaking candidate in Georgia seemingly embrace this QAnon stuff, but I don't think this covers a broad range of people, at least anecdotally.

Just like the left has the squad. Who is given more help

Nov 6, 2020, 10:04 AM

and power by their parties, the squad type legislators or the q supporters?

If there was ever a conspiracy theorist, it's AOC. But the msm wont use that word with her, instead giving her respect. The nuts on the left are progressive while the nuts on the right are conspiracy theorists. That is where we are now, and there is no common ground to be found in acquiescing to that mindset.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Franc's point is, I think, that the mantra of the left is

Nov 6, 2020, 9:40 AM [ in reply to Re: This is why division will not go away... ]

that everyone who is not them is racist, or any other ist they can name. This is not going away because Trump is gone. It was in Obama's guns and religion comment, in Clinton's deplorables comment , and in the clip just posted. Characterizing someone who recognizes it as a "conspiracy theory" is much the same thing.

For instance, I believe border security is important and is lacking, I believe the evidence shows there is very little "gender wage gap", I do not believe a self declared gender is a protected class, and I think China is at war with us. There are people I personally know, and people on this board, who will on that basis call me a racist, a misogynist, a bigot and a conspiracy theorist.

That type of thinking is going to get worse, not better, so it has nothing to do with Trump. The left will find other ways to bang that drum.

In that clip the woman (whoever she is) specifically said

Nov 6, 2020, 9:03 AM

that she's not calling half the country racist. She's accusing Trump.

So probably I missed your point.

My neighborhood buddy book page brings all the non sense....

Nov 6, 2020, 9:13 AM

QAnon people posting about CIA ballot stealing.

A white woman calling a Hispanic woman racist because she voted Trump (this one brought the most lulz).

Biden supporters crying because the race is so close meaning the country is doomed.

A 3rd grader crying because Trump is going to lose (kids that young should not be that invested in politics)

Conspiracies about the busted water line with all the ballots in Fulton County.

And just general name calling because you don't support X and voted for Y.

Re: My neighborhood buddy book page brings all the non sense....

Nov 6, 2020, 9:48 AM [ in reply to My neighborhood buddy book page brings all the non sense.... ]

The real question is do you trust the media, Hollywood, Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Shummer? They are the ones causing all the trust issues in America. Do I think the Dem. would try and steal an election. The answer is yes. The elite in DC hang out with some pretty bad pervs. Is there anyway that means that a few might be looking for children to have sex with or some other twisted perversions. I think so. When they say things that don't make common sense then there will be mistrust. If they claim to be a Christian and their action say they are not then what are people suppose to think?

98% of the country is neither. But that's BOOOOOORING. Bad for ratings. Just like 99.9% of hitchhikers are not axe murderers. But no one picks up hitchhikers anymore. And that was before internet magnification even existed.

there is a conflation of the reality for sure

Nov 6, 2020, 9:42 AM

I can't stand all the self-righteous indignation at the results of the election, but I understand it.

It is too easy to assume that the majority of votes for Trump were also votes for white privilege and the white patriarchy, which by extension can be perceived as a vote against BLM.

You can label that kind of preference racism in order for it to fit your own biased world view, but it is mostly people acting in what they think is their own best interest.

There are two sides to every story, but the most important takeaway should be that most people want to be left alone and don't want the constant lecture from "you" about their supposed moral failings. So in my opinion, a lot of these votes were blowback votes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Division might not go away for a while, but we can

Nov 6, 2020, 9:55 AM

put away the guns and knives. Stop reading stupid conspiracy sites, stop watching stupid political entertainment TV, stop giving legitimacy to "information" obtained by somebody on twitter. QAnon and its left-wing counterpart(I'm sure there is one) are stupid and if you believe them, it is your fault; you are gullible. This crap made it into the mainstream and has been deemed acceptable, whereas 15 years ago, people that espoused junk like this would have been laughed out of the room. It's time to dismiss this stuff as garbage, like it always has been.

Want to know about a candidate, read his/her speech or listen to them, not those that comment on them to feed your conspiracy fuel. Do your own thinking, don't be stupid enough believe somebody who's opinion relies on ratings or clicks. Politics is real, not reality TV. Real Americans die from bad decisions made by politicians, they don't lose points or get voted off the island.

So the people you vote for need to be able to understand the difference between real information and fictional nonsense and be willing to thoughtfully take on the responsibility of service and the leadership required of their particular office. American politics needs its own Age of Reason with a side dish of civility and we can all live on and be happier in our daily lives; focus on what matters like families, communities, faith, and learning.

Re: Division might not go away for a while, but we can

Nov 6, 2020, 9:58 AM

15 yrs ago the media tried to hide their bias but that is no longer true.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats a mighty short window of understanding. History

Nov 6, 2020, 12:06 PM

will show you that the press, especially in politics, has always presented their view from a position of less power than that of the people they cover. It's the nature of journalism. In that frame of context, the press has historically presented a liberal slant. Just as today, though, some journalists/outlets have more integrity than others...some do it better than others.

Not so much the case, anymore, with billion dollar media empires. The richie riches like Rupert Murdoch and Sinclair Broadcasting are the mainstream media... So you can give that MSM bias nonsense a rest.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-franc1968.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It goes all ways, as I addressed in my post. Doesn't

Nov 6, 2020, 11:44 AM

matter what "side" you think you're on, or what political group you affiliate with...if you allow political entertainment to guide your reason...you are part of the problem in American politics.

Let's say for gits and shiggles that some lefty-tech BS billionaire decides to get into politics, starts shid trolling Republicans on twidder daily, starts a birther theory about a presumable candidate like Nikki Haley and spreads it everywhere, refers to her as Ghandi girl, etc... Put a face on it, say it's Elon Musk, though I'm pretty sure the guy is more conservative than not, but he definitely fits the sort of celebrity, narcissist, wealthy whacko profile. Say he's tired of electric cars, AI, the other shid he's working on and wants to run the country. He spends millions to get his campaign started, gets embraced by a democratic majority, who back him no matter what idiotic crap he posts. They buy his merch and fly it, wear it, paint it on their cars. All the while he's spouting at rallies how stupid republicans are, the media doesn't understand or like him because they're dumb too, he's gonna save American from religious fascism, and make the USA the greatest tech giant the world has ever seen!

Guess what? I'm not voting for somebody like that...ever. Nor should you. In this scenario, I'm voting for Nikki, not because I agree with her stance on abortion or her tax policies...but because she's proven herself over 15 years in public service that she understands what servant leadership means. While I loathe her support of Trump, I can look back to back on good things she's done like taking the confederate flag off the state house after the Charleston shootings. Got a lot of push back from SC good ol' boys (her voters), but she did it anyway because it was the right thing to do.

I know that she will do a better job than a crazy-tweeting, narcissist, celebrity wannabe enginerd.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

She can't believe that people would vote for someone

Nov 6, 2020, 10:32 AM

because they feel like their situation would be better under Trump than under Biden?

How does she think people decide who to vote for?

I'd like to ask her why she voted for Obama, especially the first time?
