upon those in charge of protecting it and being proactive enough to have thought of this scenario ahead of time. I suppose now they will try to put some sort of dollar figure value on this priceless piece of our history. That is what kept this criminal out of jail.

Frank Eppes' a$$ is wider than the state of Texas. That boy needs to lose some weight. He might also need to consider buying his jackets in an extra long.

Fk you, FK your client, but most of all FK your clients entire family. If they hadn't raised a thief, their personal half raised thief wouldn't have been in the SC courts today for stealing.

Not for nothing, but the guy that killed Auburn's trees got 6 months and was ordered to pay $500 per month to Auburn essentially for the rest of his life. At the end of the day, one could logically argue that it IS just a rock, but it's about making sure nobody does it again so it will actually still be around in 50 years.

He should have got more than a slap on the wrist....He broke through a place where he didn't belong...period. And did damage to private property I don't care if it is just a rock..... He broke the Law....Period.

No, but this sentencing is what I would expect for a minor, say someone, 11 to 13 yrs old. This is really a slap in the face to the Clemson University fans. $2000 dollars..REALLY?...The value of The Rock, as a whole has been diminished. I agree with some of the other comments. 150k would not be unrealistic for Alum bidding...Even taking the 1344 pieces at 100/ea, the chunk missing would be substantially more than $2k. I'm estimating about $5k, based on the 134,400 figure. I'm just really aggravated at this decision. There's more "respect" for the criminal, than the thousands of others affected by this. Even if the chunk was epoxied back in place, the damage is still there, for posterity. He needs some damage applied to his posterior, on the 50 yard line. OK, I'm done. GO TIGERS!!!

Based on the $134,400 figure and 15% of the rock, the value is around $20,000.
I don't think the kid should've gotten 20 years, but no jail time and a misdemeanor slap on the wrist seems pretty light. He should definitely be banned from campus for life, have at least 6 months of jail plus probation imo. This whole process and trial has been a joke.

The testimony was the piece broken
Jul 24, 2015, 9:11 AM
|
|
Was 134k if broken into 1 in pieces, not the entire rock.
Either way that's over 10k. It does not matter if it was valued at 1million or 100k. It was over 10k but 1-2 jurors either did not want to hear or believe that.
If CU had had a better covering on the Rock, the verdict would have likely been guilty because the case would have been over 10k - which the case covering is now, along with other security measures.
1-2 jurors held out because they did not want to give that DA a felony conviction. My bet is they thought he's too young, no real harm was done, it was a prank by a young dumb kid, etc.

He did not respect Clemson, so why does he deserve respect.

security. I've seen gates open and walked to the Hill.
He should have had to pay $2000 to a local charity and do community service on campus including game days.

from Clemson.
THEY DIDN'T EVEN MAKE HIM GIVE UP THE MISSING PIECE???? ###
This is BS.
Steal $10,000+ worth of unreplaceable history and only pay $2,000 and a month of community service. Might as well just made Clemson pay him $8,000 to pick up trash for a month.

The law failed us. The system is broken.
That Dookie stain of a human being deserves to be incarcerated in a federal penitentiary for at least 5 years.
The law failed the people once again.
POS better hope our paths never cross, he would be well worth whatever fine I had to pay to remove his teeth and break his knee caps, nose, and jaws.
I hope you die Michia Rogers. I really do. Painfully...

Memorize this douchebag's face and vow to shun him at every opportunity. Don't kick his ###, as much as he needs it, that would make him a victim. Make him and his family outcasts. Don't let IPTAY accept their membership ever.

Blame goes to the prosecution for not having a very solid case. At the very least they should have called more testimony about the value of the Rock and the damage done to it.
The quip about Rogers "essentially missing the season" is also some baloney on the judge's part. That's a weak, weak attempt at punishment. Oh, noes! He has to watch the football games on delay! And that's only the 12/1pm games--he'll still be able to catch afternoon and night games. Though I doubt he'll ever show his face in Death Valley again, not if he's concerned about his safety. But that's not anything the judge imposed.
The prosecution by allowing this case to be decided as a misdemeanor has practically invited the rest of the world to take their best crack at the rock since now they know they'll only get away with a wrist slap.
