I thought his posting style was very familiar. Great catch Snowtown.

Do you think CM Shack knows you are on to him?

On i26 with traffic, I would guess roughly an 56:07

More like an M-60 Tank going 90 mph and a Yugo at 60!*****

The first car has a 56.07 head start....

Dec 16, 2016, 10:22 AM

the second car will most likely crash and burn before it ever has a chance to catch the first car.

Does the second car have gap insurance ?

I think the question is if 2 trains leave the train station at the same time how far will each travel in 60 minutes? Answer: The one painted orange would go 56 miles while the one painted red will travel 7 miles. so 56 to 7. Next question is what train do you want to be on? Answer: the Wayne Train. Go Tigers.

Yes, 56min and 7 seconds. The cars would pass each other at the Jalapa Rd exit on I-26 (84.18 miles away) if leaving Clemson headed towards Columbia, assuming they took the I-185 toll route.

Never

Dec 16, 2016, 11:43 AM

The first car you mentioned is the 90 MPH car. Since it is moving faster and has a head start, it will never need to catch the second car. Sorry, I'm a math teacher.

Re: Never

^^^Haha - I caught that too. Additionally, he did not ask to round the seconds to the nearest second, so I got 56:07.2

I'm not a math teacher, but I majored in math 40 years ago, so a little (ok - a lot) rusty. But we're gonna have to work on these millennials not being specific enough. We won't count off THIS time, but watch it buddy.

Sorry I didn't dumb it down for you enough. The fact that the question clearly states that the 90 MPH is trying to catch the 60 MPH car it would be pretty easy to figure out that the car in front IE the car in "first" would be the slower car.

Never is incorrect, too.

It is clear and unambiguous that the two cars started 28.06 miles apart. However, it didn't state that the cars were traveling in the same direction.

If the cars were traveling in the same direction, and the 60mph was "ahead", then the answer is 56m7s.

But if the 90mph car was ahead, the it would have to travel around the World to "lap" the 60 mph car. Assuming they are on the equator, that would take 49,745m53s.

If the 90mph car was traveling west, and the 60mph car was traveling east, it would take about 9,949m 11s for them to meet somewhere on the other side of the planet.

So, there's that.

Where is the second car; which of the two is the first car. Like the old story of Pravda reporting the USA vs Russian drag race. The American finished next to last an the Russian finished second.
