Is it fair to compare Clemson basketball to VPI?

if so, then there's really no defending BB and the last 7 years

but apparently being one of the best 68 team in college basketball is an unreasonable expectation for Clemson basketball.
Clemson hasn't sniffed the Tournament in six years but the administration is determined to retain the head coach. Meanwhile, NC State fires a coach who took them to the Tournament four times in the last six years.
If the administration doesn't care about the success of Clemson basketball (and judging by their actions, or inactions as the case maybe), why should we as fans.

Clemson and Va Tech on pretty much equal footing in hoops.

Very similar circumstances across the board at both schools.
Not sure how much this means though. They're having a slight renaissance right now, but have done nothing earth shattering under Buzz.
We've had our peaks along with our valley's the last couple of decades and while Brad doesn't seem to be the guy to get us moving upward again we should certainly feel justified in expecting to do as much as Va Tech is doing at the moment.
In fact, I think both Clemson and Va Tech can do a lot better than Va Tech is doing currently.
It's not a very high threshold to meet.

At the moment they're a little better off.
But, the incremental difference is nothing to get excited about since both teams will end up in the NIT.
Buzz is a good coach and he's brought life to their program. He would have been a good fit at Clemson. Still Va Tech is not that great right now and not that far ahead of Clemson.
Both schools can and should aspire to more than what Va Tech has going right now.
