Is Nuk Hopkins the best WR in Clemson history?

Oct 8, 2012, 11:04 AM

I know it's hard to compare, but he has to be top 3.

Jerry Butler in this offense would be unbelievable as well. Tuttle, Gardner, T Smith were great.

What former WR would you take over Nuk? Outside of MAYBE Butler, I don't think I would trade him for anyone.

Stuckey's faster, but not nearly as good a WR IMO.

Nuk's ball skills are incredible. His ability to slow down/speed up, time his jumps, etc. is unbelievable.

Sammy may have more potential, but he has a lot to learn from Nuk in WR skills at this point.

Nuk's career stats are better in each of the major 3 categories (receptions, yards, TDs). After 2.5 seasons...

Nuk has 600+ more yards, 10 more TDs, and 25+ more receptions.

Not close.

Stats aren't everything. The offense is incredibly different

as well.

Which means that Nuk is perhaps more important than Stuckey was, given that we used to emphasize running the ball more, and having a great WR wasn't the difference maker that it is in this offense.

Jerry Butler: 1st team All American... 1st round, #5 pick overall in NFL draft... Rookie of the Year... Pro Bowl... etc.

A drunk will run a STOP sign, but a stoner will wait for it to turn green.

Yeah, I think you could argue Nuk over everyone but Butler.

Oct 8, 2012, 11:17 AM

Tough arguement to make there.

Excluding Watkins, I would say Jerry Butler, Derrick Hamilton and Hopkins are my top 3.

NUK is incredible, particularly with routes/adjustments, separation, getting distance & catching with his hands. But he is the beneficiary of playing alongside others who are often double teamed.

Butler was almost always double covered & had safety eyes on him. So I'd say Butler, but I do love NUK.

Do you realize that Nuk's been getting the bulk of

the attention this season, and he is still well on his way to shattering every season record we have?

He is doing everything Sammy did last year and more, and he's doing it without the benefit of #2 on the field.

2010_donor_pickem.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

May be. He's one of only two ACC receivers ever to have 50+

catches in each of their Freshman and Sophomore years. Sure does look like money every game this year as well! If folks start concentrating on him, Sammy may go wild!

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The fact that this is brought up halfway through his JR year

Oct 8, 2012, 11:31 AM

is all the argument you need to say he's the best ever. Others might disagree, but there's no denying he has a case as the best in our history.

Assuming he stays healthy, it's all but guaranteed that he will set the season receiving yards, career receiving yards, season receiving touchdowns, and career receiving touchdowns records this year.

Really the only record that he won't get this year is the receptions record, but if he stays for his senior season, he will absolutely shatter that one and all the ones he sets this year.
