Is Dabo as Nice a Guy as he seems?

Does anybody know him personally? What's his reputation around Clemson? Does he occasionally have a cold one at Esso and mix and mingle with Clemson common folk? Just curious...

As far as I know, the answer is yes. My freshman year, his first year on the job, we were camping out for tickets for the Carolina game. Dabo, his wife, his sons, and some of the players walked tent to tent and handed us free pizzas for supporting the team. We had a quick chat with him and his sons and I honestly believe everything about him is genuine. There's a reason these players trust him and commit to him, hes just a good dude.

around him a couple times at his show on Mondays. No one enters or leaves the Bilo w/o him visiting with them. Whether they came in for the show or are just popping in to get milk and bread. He goes all over the store talking to folks.
Now maybe he is on during this time but I get the impression that is his personality- Friendly and outgoing

their way into those church house doors on Sunday....out and back to drinking before NFL kickoffs of course, but they did make it in to church to praaaaaaaaaaaaaise the Lord. Gotta make it to that upper roooooooooom!

FYI there is nothing written saying Jews nor Christians should not drink. Were you a virgin when you got married? Ever look at other women when married? You'd be Jesus or a very very very rare anomaly if you can say you never break the 10 big ones. Yet folks like you love to pontificate about your abstinence from alcohol.

There is nothing wrong with having a drink, however I admire those who abstain like my mother. I think it shows a lot of discipline and I think it can be beneficial to one's faith. But I do think if you are a christian you should try not to get drunk because there are lots of negative effects. I don't have much scripture to back it up but
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. -Ephesians 5:18
Anyways have a drink here and there, just be responsible and if it causes to do bad things (abuse, angry behavior, etc.) then cut it out, its not worth it

they are better than drinkers, which just that arrogance itself is a sin. And they may not drink, but they commit other sins that are in fact worse b/c the Bible does say they are a sin, unlike drinking in moderation, which is not.

I don't have a problem with it either way. Just like someone who abstains from beef or meat it is part of each person's choice and if it is connected to that person's beliefs then so be it.

Spurrier was the ONLY coach that not only wanted the hotel staff to make sure fans did not approach him in all the years I worked there, he also asked that if they were non guests of the hotel to escort them out of the building. Never seen anything like it before in my life.
Coaches like Bobby Bowden or Chuck Amato used to spend so much time with fans after meals and team meetings taking pictures and signing autographs, but Spurrier not only wanted nothing to do with fans, he also would have a police escort to walk him from one ballroom to the other. It was pretty amazing to see the extent he went to avoid it.

I don't doubt what you say, but I worked at a car rental place at RDU airport about 10 years ago, and Spurrier came in for the Duke Charity golf tournament to rent a car. I rented to him and had a decent conversation with him about why he was in town and he seemed very friendly and laid back. Those were his Redskin days, so maybe he's gotten grouchier since then. Now Ray Tanner was a guy that I dealt with that seemed cocky and arrogant.

facing adversity and who overcame such to become dignified, honorable and respectable with a deep compassion for their fellow man. I'm certain most TNetters have, also. While I don't know Coach Swinney personally, I have strongly sensed that he holds deep, personal convictions based upon his life's experiences. Thus, though the final verdict may be out on his coaching abilities, I believe his characteristics as a man are praiseworthy.

I thought it was fake and that he way campaigning for a job. A friend who worked in Athletic Department said out of the Bowden staff he was the friendliest, knew everybody's name, and was genuine. He was a legit family guy, unlike others on the staff and did not change at all.

that many public figures are very conscious of their image (well maybe not spurrier) and tightly control that image. For example,Sandusky was viewed as a caring, generous man who started a foundation to help kids.
We make a mistake by thinking the public image necessarily reflects the private person. Just think how often reports of an individual commiting an awful crime is accompanied by people saying things like "I just can't believe it, he seemed like such a great guy."
My guess is that Dabo is like most evryone else, a mix of good and not so good,an image as well as a reality.

That's the best thing about a Clemson board. We're not under any obligation to be classy to Carolina fans.

Ford would go over to ESSO after practice and hang out with folks. Hatfield lived in Townville, went to church in Anderson and didn't drink. I got a friend who saw Tommy West having "too much of a good time." They are all human. We should not be shocked if they are good or if they are bad. Just saying.

May see him out to dinner every now and then, but wouldn't expect him to be seen at Esso having a beer. For one, times have changed and a man of his stature seen drinking in public can be turned around on him, and secondly, the time to do so isn't really there.
Those coaches during season are at the office probably 6 AM to around 10-11 PM every day most days of the week. Then try to have a family life
