why is Iran our adversary in the ME instead of our current Arab allies who harbor most of the world's terrorists? Iran is Shia, which by ME standards, is far more rational than our Sunni Wahabbi/Satanist "friends"? Iran seems to be more of a natural ally as they at least allow Christianity to be practiced within their borders. KSA will behead you for that.

the short version is what most would consider long.
The really religious people over there got tired of getting dictated on, tortured by, and oppressed by the dude we(along with the UK) put in charge there in the 50s. The Shah had a secret police problem in that they made a lot of people he didn't like "secretly" disappear. Stupidly, the general public rallied behind the religious whackos and overthrew the government. And now the religious whackos are the ones doing the dictatin', torturin', and oppressin'.
So in the very shortest of stories, they don't like us because we put in power who they didn't like a long time ago. Get rid of their religious whackos, we can be friends again.
House of Saud, by contrast, owes it's very existence to the US.
