Interesting Halloween last night

I think every kid that was old enough to talk said "Thanks" when we gave them candy last night. One who was very young couldnt get out trick or treat but she had thank you down cold. Many others added have a nice evening or some other pleasantry as well. Now this is just your normal run of the mill middle class neighborhood. It just made me feel good to see the attitude the kids had. TIA

Well it’s was very different in my Hood , maybe 2 kids that live here came a knocking. The rest were from other Neighborhoods and maybe 2 said thanks. Most just stood there and didn’t even say trick or treat .

Let's face it it all starts with the parents upbringing and if they teach their kids from day one about the meaning of common courtesy

I had the same experience in our neighborhood down in the Low Country.
I have talked with several people today who commented on how polite the kids were who visited them as well.

You said a run of the mill middle class neighborhood. Would that be upper or lower middle class? Something tells me it is an affluent upper class neighborhood.

Halloween is a great American holiday. The streets near my house always get a crowd of kids and parents walking around, enjoying the evening, collecting candy, enjoying the costumed experience and saying "Hello" in a purely American fashion to their friends, neighbors and fellow citizens. Observing the holiday as an old man with grandkids, I'm always reminded of my own kids and of my own youth 60+ years ago. It's a feel good evening for me and I think for everyone who wants it to be a happy time. The costumes are better these days, the candy is more plentiful, but the spirit I see seems the same.
Last year we had some Hungarian visitors to our church over Halloween staying at our house. They really got into the Halloween experience, carving a pumpkin for our front porch and serving the kids that came knocking on our doors. I was glad our friends from Hungary could experience an American Halloween.
If your neighborhood Halloween experience was not like the pleasant ones described in this thread, I'm sorry and I hope you'll work hard over the next year to help your neighborhood improve itself for the good of the kids and for the good of America. That would strike me as a good 'Clemson-like' thing to do. I think Dabo and our football team would appreciate it.

My wife made a similar comment last night about how they all said "thank you".

We had our usual 135 kids and most were very courteous. We only had one that was an offensive lineman for somebody and one carrying a newborn with 2 bags.

our subdivision (Middle-middle class) closes our streets for the 2 hrs of trick-or-treat. We average 550 kids per year, the vast majority are polite. If they aren't, my wife (kindergarten teacher) won't drop candy in their bag until they find their manners.
We have 110 homes and everyone who wants to participate sits at the end of their driveway. It's a fun festive atmosphere, and a safe area for the kids to walk about.
Due to heavy rain and high wind it was postponed until tonight.

We just moved to West Columbia and had 75-100 kids come by and must admit all said thank you except some smaller ones. Very impressed!
