Kweschun on License Tag on vehicle that was sold.

What happens if I do not turn in my old tag? My insurance lady says they will fine me up to $200 for selling my car and not turning in tag within 5 days. I do not have time to sit at the DMV.

Has a bar code on it too, and cops have cameras on cars that can scan thousands of cars per seconds and come back with stolen vehicle flag, arrest warrant info, who knows what else it tells them.

That's a waste of taxpayer money...they could just have the drones scan the plates from 15k feet.

I consider the ACLU to be.
I think it's more of a function of the rapid downward spiral of privacy rights in my lifetime than it is me becoming more liberal leaning in my advancing age.

well -- it comes with the car, or get a new tag with new car
Mar 5, 2013, 1:56 PM

if you have a "Vanity" plate then it goes with the person
if you were to "Store" your car and not drive it -- you just file a "Non operating" thingy {can do through AAA} and not pay DMV car registration Taxes for the year.
it's pretty simple actually

transfer your old plate to that car.
You probably should have been keeping your old plates too. If nothing else, you were paying for a new plate when you bought a new car instead of the reduced transfer fee.

a car there
I drove a car to school - one my dad gave me - never registerred to me
after school - basically left for the Bering Sea, then Yellowstone,
then never really had a car and left for AZ, then CA
so I guess I just don't remember us moving tags around .....
even though my brother probably bought and sold many many many cars
weird ....

unusual in that the plate goes with the car.
That's why you see people getting all geeked up on vintage cars and advertising them with "vintage black plates".

That makes it easier for BIG brother to monitor you -- front & back will ALWAYS be enforced

They don't come after you for not turning the tag in. However, if you put the tag on another car that you own without properly registering the car they will stick you with a plethora of fines and that will be one of them.
If you ever decide to use the tag again you can transfer it to another car by paying a small charge. If there's more than half a year left on the tag it's probably economical. The tag will expire at it's appointed date.

doing things
They should just PLATES for the car - I mean it ALREADY has a VIN #
sems like a bar code would be easier these days - just bar code the car and pay a fee
BOOM done !!!!!
about 40k DMV workers just lost their jobs
isn't this a good idea ?
