Kweschun on License Tag on vehicle that was sold.

Mar 5, 2013, 1:22 PM

What happens if I do not turn in my old tag? My insurance lady says they will fine me up to $200 for selling my car and not turning in tag within 5 days. I do not have time to sit at the DMV.

Mar 5, 2013, 1:28 PM

Well here in GA we getting all new plates.

Mar 5, 2013, 1:29 PM

Has a bar code on it too, and cops have cameras on cars that can scan thousands of cars per seconds and come back with stolen vehicle flag, arrest warrant info, who knows what else it tells them.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-beeksteak-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That is really alarming.

Mar 5, 2013, 1:33 PM

That's a waste of taxpayer money...they could just have the drones scan the plates from 15k feet.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep.

It's weird.........the older I get, the less useless I

I consider the ACLU to be.

I think it's more of a function of the rapid downward spiral of privacy rights in my lifetime than it is me becoming more liberal leaning in my advancing age.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would say the former, most people see their hard earned

Mar 5, 2013, 2:10 PM

money going out the door as they get older, especially when I don't think I will ever be able to retire.

WOW - interesting --- BUT still doesn't answer a ?? I have

Mar 5, 2013, 1:48 PM [ in reply to Yep. ]

or asks another question

If you sell the Car ---- Why can't the plate & bar code just be registered to the new person ??

you know -- just like it ALWAYS was before .... ???

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Plates have always gone with people, never with cars.***

Mar 5, 2013, 1:51 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh - ok, sorry, I have never experienced that before

Mar 5, 2013, 1:52 PM

always sold the plates with the car

my bad -- now I understand

Is this just for Georgia ????

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't even want to know what you have to go through in CA.

Mar 5, 2013, 1:53 PM

to get a tag.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-beeksteak-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well -- it comes with the car, or get a new tag with new car

Mar 5, 2013, 1:56 PM

if you have a "Vanity" plate then it goes with the person

if you were to "Store" your car and not drive it -- you just file a "Non operating" thingy {can do through AAA} and not pay DMV car registration Taxes for the year.

it's pretty simple actually

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's that way for SC and NC....you buy a new car, you

Mar 5, 2013, 1:54 PM [ in reply to Oh - ok, sorry, I have never experienced that before ]

transfer your old plate to that car.

You probably should have been keeping your old plates too. If nothing else, you were paying for a new plate when you bought a new car instead of the reduced transfer fee.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well - actually even though I grew up in SC - I never owned

Mar 5, 2013, 1:59 PM

a car there

I drove a car to school - one my dad gave me - never registerred to me

after school - basically left for the Bering Sea, then Yellowstone,

then never really had a car and left for AZ, then CA

so I guess I just don't remember us moving tags around .....

even though my brother probably bought and sold many many many cars

weird ....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ohh, wait, never mind, you're in CA....yeah, they are

Mar 5, 2013, 1:56 PM [ in reply to Oh - ok, sorry, I have never experienced that before ]

unusual in that the plate goes with the car.

That's why you see people getting all geeked up on vintage cars and advertising them with "vintage black plates".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah - the bumble bee plates are worth $$$$$***

Do you still have to have two tags, front and back?***

Mar 5, 2013, 2:04 PM

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-beeksteak-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

YES !!!! and the ####### cops will ticket you instantly

Mar 5, 2013, 2:07 PM

for not displaying the front

That makes it easier for BIG brother to monitor you -- front & back will ALWAYS be enforced

In NY too, the prisoners have to have a job.

Mar 5, 2013, 2:12 PM

So they will always have two plates..

Re: Kweschun on License Tag on vehicle that was sold.

Mar 5, 2013, 2:10 PM

They don't come after you for not turning the tag in. However, if you put the tag on another car that you own without properly registering the car they will stick you with a plethora of fines and that will be one of them.

If you ever decide to use the tag again you can transfer it to another car by paying a small charge. If there's more than half a year left on the tag it's probably economical. The tag will expire at it's appointed date.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

this all sounds like a complicated & UNefficient way of

Mar 5, 2013, 2:13 PM

doing things

They should just PLATES for the car - I mean it ALREADY has a VIN #

sems like a bar code would be easier these days - just bar code the car and pay a fee

BOOM done !!!!!

about 40k DMV workers just lost their jobs

isn't this a good idea ?
