That was the second game of the year. Glad there wasn't an internet back then. We would have heard how teams had "figured out the option (which they had and still couldn't stop)". It didn't stop us from winning a National Championship.

Were we in the NCG in 1981? I don't think the issue is just that we barely won, but the sharp regression from a few months prior.

Well following that NC, we started the next year 0-1-1...

as we played poorly and lost at UGA and were tied at home by BC, a pretty sharp "regression" from just a few months prior. Then we went on to finish the season with 9 straight wins and finish 9-1-1. So even though we haven't looked very good, we have started better than the last time we played for a NC.
