free college tuition to immigrants. A debt-free college education is an absolute RIGHT of all people, just like healthcare. Why does the government hate immigrants so much that they won't just give it to them?

Immigration status prevents him from getting loans? Possibly illegal? If he is illegal he shouldn't get loans much less free assistance.

If that is not the case.....I still don't believe in giving it away just because they are immigrants. We have plenty of bright Americans that need help. Whose families have paid taxes for decades. Why do people that just show up and get more help than people that are already here?

None the less .... More power to him. Work hard and stay focused on your goals and you will achieve them.

Is entitled to anything other than what they work for. There are lots of people that do without. Why should being an immigrant put you at the front of the line? He is working for it..... Good for him. We could use more people tgat are willing to work for their dreams in this country

If he is legal it shouldn't. But maybe he is still a citizen elsewhere. Which would keep him out of the loan and grant system. As it should. It's tough. But at least he gets to be here and gets the opportunity to go get it.

Why does the argument divert to someone's ancestors? Is it strictly a diversionary tactic? I think so as it has nothing to do with the point at hand..nothing...If he is a legal citizen he should qualify..my ancestors came from over seas which I would imagine most, if not all, of those posting on here did. What matters is here and now. Right here, right now. If he is legal, he should get aid. If not, no aid. There are plenty of kids that were born here that would love to go to a school of the quality that is C L E M S O N and yet cannot due to family income, and they are being asked to step to the rear when it comes to aid. Make sense much?

As a father that has worked all my life to give my children a good life with the opportunities for them that come with that, I can totally sympathize with this young man's (Jesus)position. This is a great country. No other like it in the world. I have not one problem with folks coming here to provide a better life for their families. As a person who has paid taxes all my life, I do however, have a problem with folks that enter this country illegally expecting to be handed all that this country offers ahead of other citizens. This young man evidently has the work ethic to make it (judging from one page on an internet site.)I haven't found it, and I've looked, anywhere that it is written that a "free" education is a right of all citizens (free in quotations as Nothing is ever "free".Someone has paid for it somewhere along the line-usually through taxation). I applaud his effort and his perseverance and wish him the best.

First of all, anyone that is that stupid to send a donation to some web site w/I having any other knowledge of who the person is, deserves to be ripped off. So, cheers to this illegal immigrant if he is able to sell his story and make $.

Secondly, I don't feel one bit sorry for anyone who is in this country illegally. Go back home and get in line by doing it the "Legal" route like my wife had to do. Come here AFTER you have something to contribute to our nation.

Thirdly, there are plenty of legal American kids who deserve the opportunity ahead of you, Hombre.

I guess you think that we should just pay for everything for everybody throughout the entire world. After all, it is a "right"-at least in your mind. Yes, in a world with unicorns and rainbows, that might work. This is the real world. We can only borrow so much money from the Chinese. Or maybe we should just give all our pay checks to the government and let them decide how much we should keep. I would love to see Obummer sign an executive order that no one can make over $35,000 a year.

Yawn

First off, last time I checked, while there are no unicorns, rainbows are an actual thing. Second, this isn't about politics, it's about a Tiger, a Clemson Tiger, a kid that works hard and does the right thing struggling to finish his eduction because he isn't eligible for the same assistance as everyone else. I'm not sure if you've ever had a student loan, but it's not exactly free money. I would say this is more of an Orange issue than a Red or Blue issue, but that's just me.

My response was to answer the question, "why doesn't our government help out?"
Not a fan of the Iraqi War myself. Not much of a fan of any war. The current president called the Afgan War a just war.
Regarding the Federal Debt, the sad thing is that retirement benefits such as Social Security and Medicare, veterans, senior and retiree plans aren't even included in the 17 trillion figure. In June of 2010 that total number owed along with the deficit was 61.6 trillion (according to article written by Dennis Cauchon, in the USA Today). Today, that figure is much larger.
This administration has doubled the initial amount they inherited to 17+ trillion, and increased social programs, so they are also responsible for a portion as well.

Bush did sort of get the party started

Posted: Jul 14, 2014 2:32 PM

This blind partisanship that so many Americans have (especially on Tiger Boords) is what is making things so hard to correct. You'd rather ##### about Obama vs Bush than hold congress accountable, which is where the damage is primarily coming from.

Obama and Bush both can't do much without Congress. Checks and balances. Too bad Congress is the worst stinker of them all. But let's keep arguing red vs blue, because that's real productive.

Blind partisanship...

[1]
Posted: Jul 14, 2014 2:48 PM

I am old enough to have lost any blind partisanship that I ever had. The national discourse that we have today is disingenuous at best, with both sides talking over each other and getting nowhere.
I don't disagree with your statement about Bush, because they lost sight and started spending like drunken sailors. And the current administration has not learned from that.
I would like to see us make our government more efficient, and weed out those who are gaming the system, and get a better percentage of each dollar to those who truly need it.
