I visited Niagara Falls in the middle of the night in January 1997. No one was there but us. The mist froze in the air and the entire observation platform was a cascading shelf of solid ice. It was the sort of fleeting moment that remains with you forever.

I spent a couple vacations driving up and down US 1 in Maine, and all I ever saw was pasty people laying out on rock-covered beaches....never saw a nice sandy stretch like that.
