Man in the Mirror: Travis Etienne looking inward for improvement

Knowledge is key for Travis Etienne. Etienne, Clemson’s standout sophomore running back, came out of the last padded practice of the spring Monday night with a grin on his face.

Sounds like he finally sees the light on his job not just running the ball, but blocking and diverting defense attention on read options. I would point out his words on QB protection, "and little things like that", as he acknowledged in the Bama game his missed block wasn't so little. Maybe semantics. One play like can stop a drive.

Everyone's entitled to their harsh opinion of ETN, but the fact is, his talent was SO overwhelming the staff was willing to risk what he 'had not yet learned', for the upside he brought to the attack. Travis didn't put himself on the field before he had time in the weight room, learned the playbook, and practiced the nuances of blocking. The staff chose that route for the good...and the less so. Not Travis.

This coming season will tell a different tale.

Travis should be a better all-around player this year, no question.

No message could have been any clearer. If you want to make the Tigers a better team, take a look at yourself and then make a change.

Not out of the realm of possibility. I feel that the leap he makes in year 2 will be phenomenal. With a year of strength conditioning and coaching under his belt, he'll far and away exceed everyone's wildest expectations next year.
