While we're all looking at old stories & pictures of Clemson to pass the time; how was the football time when you were at Clemson (or should have been there)?? The following link makes it very easy to see schedule, roster, rankings & stats of all 118 years of Clemson football.
1982: 9-1-1 [Tied BC, beat #18 UNC & Maryland, beat USC 24-6 and finished ranked #8 --beat WF in Mirage Bowl] 1983: 9-1-1 [Tied UGA, beat #10 UNC & #11 Maryland, beat USC 22-13 and finished ranked #11-- Bowl probation] 1984: 7-4-0 [Lost at #18 GT and #20 UGA, lost to USC 22-21 and finished unranked -- Bowl probation] 1985: 6-6-0 [lost early to UGA, GT & KY, beat USC 24-17 and finished unranked --lost to Minn. @ Ind. Bowl]
Overall: 31-12-2

I'll tell you what builds character.

20-32-1 builds character.
68....4-5-1 69....4-6 Frank Howard beat GT in his last chance for the first Clemson win over GT in 24 years! 70....3-8 71....5-6 Beat SC 72....4-7 Beat SC
We went on to post losing records in 73,75 and 76. If you are counting that's 8 losing seasons in 9 years.
You have to be dead to have had a worse starting streak as a Clemson fan than I did.

I was there for the last 2 years of Steve Fuller and the beginning of the first natty team. I was at Wille B and witnessed "the catch #1" first hand. Nothing better than to see the coots dreams smashed that day. The best part of that game was that at least half of them stayed on their tailgate for the second half and came pouring back in when they took the lead only to be smacked down yet again.

10-2 in 86 and 87. One of those yrs I think we were an odd 7-2-2. 88-90 seems more like it.

The one thing I remember the most about Coach Parker was his comments at the Iptay meeting in Aiken one year. He was asked about tackle Lacy Brumley, and he said ole Lacey "looks like Tarzan, smells like Cheeta and plays like Jane" and it brought the house down!

and Red Parker. But, hey, we did have the "Undefeated Home Season" of 1974. (But, we were a totally inglorious 1-4 on the road that same year). 18-26 for the four seasons 72-75, with ZERO bowl appearances. This was far worse than even the Tommy West years.

80-81 through 84-85. Some very good football during the Danny Ford years. Plus I was there for the National Championship season. My son starts Clemson in the fall, so I hope he gets to have a Natty while he's in Tigertown.

1998: Tommy West, 3-8 1999: Tommy Bowden, 6-6 2000: Tommy Bowden, 9-3
I was there for a horrible 1998 team, resulting in West being fired, followed by the excitement of a new coach in 1999, followed by what was perhaps Bowden’s peak at Clemson in 2000.
We were 0-2 in bowls, but way more competitive under Bowden than we were under West. That 1999 team was better than its 6-6 record. Our offense was actually fun to watch. The team played with much better energy.
I got to see a narrow loss to eventual national champion FSU in Bowden Bowl I, and a beat down at FSU the following year in Bowden Bowl II. On a positive note, I got to see The Catch II against the Coots in what was my last Clemson home game before graduating.
I graduated early, so I missed out on being a student during the 2001 season which was not that great.
I am so appreciative of what we have now!

89 team should have not lost a reg season game but would have been outmatched by both nd and Miami and the heartbreak that followed the season with Ford leaving 90 great defense and beat a bad GA team senseless in the valley ran into unusually good uva and gt teams and lost both 91 fairly decent team but after an embarrassing loss to cal in the bowl game, the recruiting drop off was apparent and the writing was on the wall for Hatfield 92. Do not recall much good about that team other than the comeback at uva. Had many opportunities to beat FSU at night in their first acc game but blew it

of Clemson football...1968-71. I think we won 15 games TOTAL for the four years! But I don't recall missing a home game the entire four years. Didn't miss many basketball games either!

Undergrad 85-90: 43-14 Grad 90-91: 19-4
Undergrad were the Rodney Williams, Terry Allen years. Good times, indeed.
