The same reason you don't go for it any other time, statistics.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think statistics would prove otherwise

Jan 1, 2015, 10:48 PM

Isn't the odds of making a two-pointer almost 50-50?

If you miss, being 2 behind isn't much different than 1.

When the likelihood of a safety is so rare.

If OSU scores the next TD, they are up 6 instead of 5. That's a big difference.

agreed.....never understood why coaches don't go for 2 in that situation

Momentum plain and simple

If they stop you going for 2 they get a little momentum back. Going in tied is not a big difference than down 1.

You don't go for 2 until you have to! A FG puts them ahead so no need to.

A field goal still does even is they fail

Jan 1, 2015, 10:50 PM

at the two point conversion.

it puts them ahead if you miss the 2 pt conversion as well

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Now, if Bama scores again

Jan 1, 2015, 10:49 PM

It'll be still a one possession game. Otherwise it would have been 28-19

The reason is you never know how the points will shake out in the end. The first half is too early to start chasing points.

if you miss the 2 pt conv. you can still win with a field goal.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Still think it indicates the coach is bad at math & statist.

Never chase points early.. Still a whole half to play.. Make it a one point game and don't risk losing momentum by missing 2-point conversion..

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Also, following in the opponent's footsteps early shows weakness

Jan 1, 2015, 11:16 PM

And a lack of confidence in what you planned to do going into the week, and your team's ability to move the ball consistently on the opposition.

The lack of confidence in being able to reach pay dirt again, has a trickle effect on the play of your team.

Execute your gameplan.
