If YOU could pick tomorrow: ACC, SEC or BIG XII ??

May 8, 2012, 10:52 PM

As much as I love the southern rivalries, this expansion to the North has ruined the ACC. I love the basketball of the ACC, but hate Swofford, Roy & K manipulating the league. IF winning games is a priority (duh), we had better stay in the ACC for football. The scary fact is we could compete in the SEC basketball except for Kentucky & Kansas in the XII.

All said & done, we need to stay in the ACC with eliminating Swofford & working a real deal in television.

i agree, with the way we have been recruiting the last few years we need to stay in the ACC so long as it's a BCS conference, no one other than the Noles are coming close to recruiting the players we do..we keep it up we will be dominating the ACC the way the aforementioned Noles did in the 90's

food for thought

May 8, 2012, 11:04 PM

If we eliminate swoofie what are the chances we get another unc and duke fanboy?

ACC

SEC............Not even Close

May 9, 2012, 7:04 AM

Let's see..

ACC Atlantic: Every year games

FSU
Boston College
Maryland
NC State
Wake Forest
Syracuse

SEC: East Every year

Georgia
South Carolina (With them in the SEC, we get another OOC game)
Florida
Tennessee
Kentucky
Vandy
Missouri

The opposite division games would lose games like GT, Miami and GT but pick up Alabama, Arky, LSU, Auburn,..etc

This is a no-brainer

Re: If YOU could pick tomorrow: ACC, SEC or BIG XII ??

May 9, 2012, 8:44 AM

the SEC - win or lose, that's where we BELONG. We FIT the SEC - period.

Think about it - almost every week there's a sellout crowd and the stadium is rocking, whether HOME or AWAY. Beating Wake or Duke or Maryland or BC or ... means nothing. Beating Bama, Auburn, UF, UT, LSU, Arky, ... DOES MEAN SOMETHING. If usuc can do it - then we should want that challenge too. Being the big fish in the smaller pond doesn't really equate to much unless you can win the big bowl games - which so far, we haven't done squat.

Wanting to stay in the ACC makes me think we need to change our mascot from TIGERS to ...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am so sick of this logic. It's dishonest:

"Beating Wake or Duke or Maryland or BC or ... means nothing. Beating Bama, Auburn, UF, UT, LSU, Arky, ... DOES MEAN SOMETHING."

Why isn't it...

"Beating Kentucky, Ole Miss, Miss State and Vanderbuilt...means nothing. Beating Miami, FSU, VT, GT...DOES MEAN SOMETHING."

By the way, UT and UF suck, and we did beat Auburn.

This is the most consistently dishonest argument in the whole expansion discussion. Comparing Duke and Wake to the absolute top of the other conferences. "Hmmm...do I want to play Duke and Wake or Texas and Oklahoma...let me think...".

I think everybody would prefer the SEC. However, that isn't happening. So the next best option is the Big XII.

May 9, 2012, 9:21 AM

so far away. The if you threw us and FSU in the SEC East and then moved Mizzu where they belong, in the West, and had a 16 team league it would be awesome.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Really pure geographic conferences would be nice and just

May 9, 2012, 9:25 AM

erase everything we have.

A true ACC with the 4 NC schools, VT, UVA, Mary, ECU, and soon ODU (laugh all you want about ODU for now).

A true south atlantic league with Clem/SC/UGA/GT/UF/FSU/Miami/USF/UCF

These are 9 league leagues with true round robin scheduling, its clean. If you remove the concept of league title game you have 1 more week for playoffs with true league champions across the country. Could have 8 9 team leagues.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Two ways to answer that question...

May 9, 2012, 9:24 AM

A. The ACC stand pat (or loses teams).
1.SEC
2.Big 12
3.ACC

B. The ACC adds 2 football schools...
1.ACC
2.SEC
3.BIg 12

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Two ways to answer that question...

May 9, 2012, 10:17 AM

Adding football schools is all nice and well, but the acc is so far behind when it comes to televison money and inovative thinking. Those in charge of the acc will always put basketball first. The only way I can see staying in the acc is that it adds two new football schools, hires a new commisioner(who isnt biased, and is a go getter and would exand the televison deal). Now if that were to happen then staying put in the acc would be ok.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: If YOU could pick tomorrow: ACC, SEC or BIG XII ??

May 9, 2012, 9:43 AM

The ACC has 4 traditional football powerhouses in Miami, FSU, VT and Clemson. The SEC has 6 traditional football powerhouses in LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee. The Big 12 has Texas, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. We can continue to schedule a SEC team other than South Carolina. The ACC has much better academics than the other 2. We are charter members of the ACC and just newcomers anywhere else. There is always the possibility of the ACC getting stronger in football. Pitt and Syracuse are pretty good traditional football teams. I recall a sound trashing from Syracuse in the not to distant past in a bowl game. Maybe we need to come down off the high horse and try to win another ACC championship and more importantly, the state championship.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well if I could have my pick

May 9, 2012, 10:13 AM

I would say Big 12. Now before this all started I wouldve said SEC all the way, but the more I think about it the big 12 is a better option. The big 12 allows us to exand our footprint more and gives us a much wider area to recruit from.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Big 12 - Never. I would not be opposed to an offer from the

May 9, 2012, 10:21 AM

SEC. The truth is that we fit geographically and our football gameday experience is right in line with most SEC schools. It would also free-up an OOC game, which is convenient. Obviously we would either be in South Carolina's division or be their permanent rival. And of course, their TV contracts are far better, and we would add a couple thousand to our average attendance.

Having said all that, I'm not begging to join the SEC. I'm fine with the ACC. Under the right leadership, it can be a very powerful conference.

We WILL NOT leave the ACC

May 9, 2012, 10:28 AM

It's not happening. TDP and PB have no desire to leave, and the BOT will follow.

Even if FSU bails, we're staying.

EXCELLENT IDEA by TrueTiger1998

May 9, 2012, 10:51 AM

http://www.tigernet.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=12195786

Add Clemson & FSU to the SEC East and put Missouri in the SEC West where they belong. It would take USC off as an OOC game, allow some new rivalries within the SouthEast footprint and recruiting base expands, but not to the point we gotta go to Kansas, Iowa and other places. Travel expenses for the TEAMS and FANS would not skyrocket either. Oh yeah, plus more $$$ and less Swofford & Cronies to deal with.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ACC hand down.

May 9, 2012, 10:53 AM
