Big XII has a great opportunity to jump to 14 teams....

May 14, 2012, 11:10 AM

Once FSU and Clemson leave, Miami and GT will be looking as well. If the Big XII can get them, you have the premiere athletic conference in the country and you have cut schools projected travel expenses in half.

I'd rather take Virginia Tech than Miami.***

wonder if SEC would take a VT/Nc state package

May 14, 2012, 12:29 PM

that way the ACC is stuck with unc/duke and good luck with duke carrying football

If Clemson and FSU bolt for the Big XII....

May 14, 2012, 12:49 PM

I think the $EC would look very closely at schools like VT and NCSU assuming, of course, they are not part of the move to the Big XII.

Take them both, and add Notre Dame?

That would leave Swafford trying to sell his basketball conference's TV rights to pay his salary.

Four Divisions

May 14, 2012, 12:10 PM

East:
WVU, Clemson, FSU

South West:
TX, Oklahoma, OK St,

West:
TCU, Baylor, TX Tech

North:
K St, Iowa St, Kansas

Balanced Schedule:

Everyone in the division plays each other, plus everyone from two other divisions (rotating bi-yearly).

Flex Game:

The weekend after Thanksgiving, there is a flex game in which Division A host Division B (rotating bi-yearly).

The host schools and date are predetermined, but the opponents are determined by the results of the first 8 conference game. The first place team in Division A plays the first place team in Division B. Second vs. Second and Third vs. Third.

The two winners of the "first place" flex games will meet the following weekend in the Big XII Title game.

Example Schedule for Clemson:

WVU, FSU, TCU, Baylor, TX Tech, K St, Iowa St, Kansas, and Texas in the Flex Game.

The four divisions would actually make some sense and the flex games theory sounds like a positive take on things. I mean I would rather not go to the SEC if at all possible.

Re: Four Divisions

Sorry and no harm intended but, at a time where all conferences except for the SEC is scrambling. The SEC would be the best place to be. And to think not, is just stupid thinking Some think that Clemson isn't SEC caliber team. I think we are with the direction Dabo is taking our team. Right now, I would say with luck ( all teams need luck )Clemson could win the SEC east. And within a couple more years with the same luck, we could compete for all the SEC marbles.

Re: Four Divisions

May 14, 2012, 6:02 PM

I mean I hear what you are saying and winning the SEC east is very possible. But we can not compete with the likes of Alabama and LSU especially on a recruiting scale, because we would be just another SEC school. The Smart thing from a talent stand point is to go to the Big 12 or expand the ACC. Now of course the easier of the two would be to expand the ACC but no one wants to come play football in the ACC. They want to get in the big market. Our offense would fit perfectly in the Big 12 where defense isn't the focus but scoring is.

Seeing some really interesting ideas today. Good post.***

May 14, 2012, 10:07 PM [ in reply to Four Divisions ]

I agree with 4 divisions but there will be 16 teams not 12.
ESPN is pushing for 4 super conferences. I think it will be the SEC, Big12, Pac10 and the Big10. This will fit in nicely with the 4 team playoff. Just my opinion.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

16 teams makes for a nice 7 games + 1 flex game schedule

May 15, 2012, 8:55 AM

This leaves 4 slots for games vs UGA, USC, and some cup cakes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think CU, Miami, FSU, VT, N. Dame, GT, NCST, UNC,

May 15, 2012, 9:17 AM [ in reply to Re: Four Divisions ]

UVA, MD, Pitt, BC, and Syarcus will all fit into the SEC, Big 12, Pac 10 and the Big 10.

Half of these teams have won a national championship within recent history.

It is concevable that the other half could win a national championship if they "get lucky" and sign a player like Donovan Mcnabb or RG3.

You can't leave these teams out of a future national championship play-off system while including teams like Vandy, North Western, Utah, and South Carolina.
