Question about the new President

Nov 9, 2013, 6:17 PM

Do y'all think he/she would take the University in a direction similar to Cornell ie Liberal Arts with Engineering and Sciences?

What say you?

I'd rather bring some of the emphasis...

Nov 9, 2013, 6:22 PM

back to agriculture. That IS the university's primary mission after all. That college is in dire need of more faculty, but there isn't any more to hire them. My major department (horticulture) has lost half a dozen or so professors in the last 5 or 6 years and hasn't replaced them. Important classes are going untaught.

and add a vet school.***

amazed we dont have that in this day and age.

you have to have better undergrad grades to go to a vet school that a med school due to the limited numbers of sports at Ga and auburn

Correct

Nov 9, 2013, 6:30 PM [ in reply to Re: and add a vet school. ]

Then we could hire my wife to teach, and I get to live in Clemson. Hey, can we start a petition or something.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes

Nov 9, 2013, 7:25 PM [ in reply to Re: and add a vet school. ]

There are less than 30 vet schools in the entire country...it would be nice to have an accredited one in the state.

Hmm seems like we could gain some prestige... Now just for the financial side

I would prefer a School of Robotics and Dinosaur Cloning.***

Another question is there a difference in funding that Clemson gets and what USuC

Re: Question about the new President

I think it's about half... Clemson gets less than 15% of it's budget from direct state funding. This is why they keep trying less state over site..

It is a shame that in the State of South Carolina in order to become a vet you have to go out of state...

Re: Question about the new President

Nov 9, 2013, 7:15 PM

Yep.... I think that Tri-County Tech use to have a pre-vet course so you could transfer to UGA........ That is just sad...... How much could it really cost?

Clemson also missed the boat when PC added a RX school... Clemson should have gone after that hard... The upstate has the most population of any area in the state and they didn't have a RX school....

Clemson will more than likely let some small school add a med school also missing that boat also... The upstate could use one.... And a true research hospital so everyone doesn't have to drive to Durham, Atlanta, or Charleston... It's a big deal if you need to be seen on a regular basis...
