he'd better do better than he did at GT

I'm just excited that there's some new blood in the building.

Doing away with the good old boy system can work wonders for a program.

I agree, new blood and a new perspective will be best for us.

TDP was from OSU, and was only here 9 years

Hard to be part of any "good ol' boy system" when that's the case. His problem just seemed to be that he didn't have enough energy to combat the mediocrity we had sunk into in some of the olympic sports.

I'm not excited about it either, but a Clemson grad

who is very familiar with GT left this response on Buddybook to a post of mine questioning the hire:

Took them from a 9M debt to profitable in less than 2 years. And he actually understands marketing the athletics program to the alums and local area. Tough job at GT, but less so at Clemson. But I still contend that our marketing efforts at Clemson are paltry.

I've got to agree that we could use better marketing.

this is total BS. Their crowd support is awful.

Yes, but it has been worse.

Oct 29, 2012, 10:31 AM

Compare them to Miami, two college teams in NFL cities. Georgia Tech is much more relevant.

that's comforting to know

Oct 29, 2012, 10:07 AM [ in reply to I'm not excited about it either, but a Clemson grad ]

I have had a problem with the ineptitude of Clemson's PR and marketing for a long time, but maybe Radakovich will improve that.

Clemson commercials.

Yep, better be able to cover speedy WRs, tackle, shoot

I'd bet a lot of money the GT AD already has a solid relationship with Dabo and Jack. That's a win in a lot of ways.

Still, I don't know enough about him to be very excited one way or another.

Kinda sorta

Oct 29, 2012, 10:08 AM

The way I heard the story was the NCAA was on campus and interviewing some player about an extra suit (no joke) and they told DR not to tell Paul Johnson. So the NCAA basically said that GT wasn't cooperative.

I'd say he did the right thing. A coach deserves to know why his players are being investigated. I'd tell the NCAA to pound sand in that situation as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Interesting

Oct 29, 2012, 10:21 AM

Not sure how I feel about hiring a guy who was uncooperative with the NCAA, no matter how silly the investigation seemed. I do like facility upgrades though, and new blood may be a good thing. I liked TDP except for destroying the swim team for women's freakin golf

I wouldn't say he was uncooperative

Oct 29, 2012, 10:41 AM

I'd say the NCAA asked him to do something unreasonable. If I'm the AD and the NCAA came on campus to investigate one of our players but not tell my head coach about it, I'd tell them that they were fools. I'd call my head coach with the NCAA guys there and tell him "make so-and-so available to the NCAA, but this is what they are on campus looking at."

A coach deserves to know that his players are being interviewed by the NCAA.

Actually I will love him as long as he brings the Grant Field clock operator, That man is a true genius. I have never seen a man wring more time out of a clock when his team is behind and driving, or lose more time for an opponent when they are driving, in the last few minutes.
