I just want to say that I hate and despise the car buying process.
You get in there, go through the hassle of negotiating a price on a car that I really didn't want (missus car) and they want to tack on this OTHER shiite.
$750 for Lojack
$3000 to protect your lifetime warranty (wait, you didn't mention THAT up front in your sales spiel you prick)
$688 for upholstery treatment (huh? the upholstery isn't ALREADY treated?)
Oh, we can just roll all these costs into yo pay-mints...
*grumble*

1. Go to places only to test drive if you need to.
2. Do all research on the internet
3. Settle on a car that you want to buy within your price range.
4. Explore all options and prices for said options. Settle on options.
5. Start calling dealerships and tell them you are price shopping. "I want a X model Y with features A, B, and C. I DO NOT WANT X, Y, Z. HOW MUCH? Can you email a quote to me.
6. Do this at like 10 dealerships, in and out of state if practical for you.
7. Show up to buy at the place you've picked. Tell them THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT AND I AM A VOLATILE MOTHRA FUKKA. IF YOUR FINANCE GUY STARTS JACKING OFF I WILL GET UP AND LEAVE THIS SUMBITCH FASTER THAN YOU WILL WHEN YOU QUIT. YOU HEARD ME? AND IF THIS IS GHANA TAKE MORE THAN 30 MIN, I'LL GIVE YOU A COPY OF MY DL, SS card, AND WHATEVER ELSE YOU NEED AND LEAVE. THEN YOU CALL ME WHEN I CAN COME BACK AND LEAVE WITHIN 30 MINUTES. YA HEARD?

9. Share this process. It works wonders.
I've prolly bought 8 cars this way over my lifetime. Won't do it any other way.

When we're in the negotiating process, I've gotten up and walked away from, often in the car driving away. I don't really mind that part. Well I do, but that's just part of the game.
It's all this tack on nonsense afterward, that I'll admit I didn't foresee coming since its been awhile. We had to finance some of it this time because I need to sell something later to finish it off. The bastuds started out negotiating the payment first. I'm like, whattheheckfirearewedoing? Let's talk price not payment.

Past three times I've bought a car I've done this, and gotten exactly the deal I wanted. Always is good to go at the end of the month, too.

Use carsdirect.com. We've done it for 2 new vehicles and had prices negotiated before we ever left home. The only thing to do at the dealer was fill out the paperwork. Life's too short to waste it on a car salesman.
