Barnwell man dies while fishing

BEAUFORT, S.C. -- Authorities say a Barnwell man has died while fishing on a river in Hampton County.

Coroner Ernie J. Washington Sr. tells The Island Packet of Hilton Head that 68-year-old Terry Thomas Lott had gone fishing in his boat on the Combahee River on Monday.

Officers with the Department of Natural Resources were alerted to Lott’s disappearance late Monday afternoon and his body was found by a DNR boat about an hour later.

Washington says an autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Many condolences to the family of Mr Lott. I grew up in Hampton County and have fished the Combahee many times. It is a beautiful place..
